I have sent my story to two volunteer editors already and one has just told me the story was hot, but that was the last I heard from that person and the second has sent some of the edits back to me, but haven't heard from him in about a week not. I asked if the story was boring, since I have about 11 of them hanging around, but he said he liked it, just too busy. After reading some of the advice out there, I realize my story about the experiences that lead up to a lesbian 3-some are a no-no, but I can't help myself. I still love writing and think most of my trouble is sentence-structure and maybe not enough detail at times. My, I do go on... Anyone willing to take a shot at that story or another. They are all fairly long at 80,000 to 260,000 words... Anyone?

Thanks;-o

Wow!

I can't imagine a volunteer editor willing to take on 80,000 word piece, much less 200,000. What's more I can assure you until you have the publishing rep of somebody like Tom Clancy or P Cornwell, no agent or publisher will but a story of such length.

Write some short stories (5,000 -- 10,000 words). Get them edited and posted and see what the reader reaction is like.

good luck!

I think think is being a teeny bit pessimistic.
people do get published at book length if they are good enough.

personally I find short stories boring. I rarely read anything less than 50,000 words.

Some of us are willing, if we think the work is good enough, and have done so in the past.

whotrere70: Try sending the editor a chapter or two in the first instance.

This is simply wrong. My original publisher accepted a full length book from me when I had no previous publishing history, and I got an advance. My present publisher did the same from another Lit member. Publishers want books they think will sell well. Past reputation is not the only criterion, otherwise there would never be any first novels published!

That is not the way to learn to write a book. Short stories need different skills. My novels sell well, but my short stories are not so good.

If you think that reader reaction on a site like this is an indication of good writing then your definition of 'good writing' is very different from mine.
