I have been looking at xhamster this morning and it looks like I picked up a virus. I get a message box and a voice telling me that my IP address is associated with an identity theft web site - please do not attempt to logoff or restart your computer … "

I immediately shut down anyway and when I logged back on everything still seemed fine and I went back to xhamster again and had the same thing happen. So , again I just cntrl + alt + delt and shut down.

Back again and once again everything seems ok.

I'm wondering if I need to just stay away from xhamster now or if I need to take my computer into a shop and have a prof. scan it and look for viruses. I do have anti virus software on my computer - Norton.

What do you guys say ?

Try clearing your cookies and history.

that happens all the time on xhamster and a LOT of the porn sites, whether they're legit or not.

Are you using an ad-blocker or similar software? My gut feeling is that when you have those running, the website aggressively selling ads uses a scam virus detect to make you "go away."

Why? Two rationales.
First, by watching their videos, you are hogging their streaming from fools not running ad-blocking (ads by and large aren't inherently bad, but ads tend to be aggressive) which is how those websites make $$$ (by selling ad-time for people watching their videos (honestly, people are entitled to make a buck, which is why I don't block clean ads)).
Second, WHY would the website that gave you the malware/virus/whatever let you know you have one???

Do you have voice enhanced malware detection software??? If you don't (i'm not aware of any that do), then where do you think the voice is coming from???

Push "esc" which usually closes the fake virus alert. If not, you'll have to close your browser ( ctrl/alt/del ), and shouldn't need to shut down your computer.

Frankly, it's worse to close down your 'puter, instead of running a malware/anti-virus, because by shutting down, you are probably cementing in the virus. Think of it as updating your environment (windows). You download the new updates then do what to make the changes stick?
Did you answer with reboot your computer???

If you really are worried about a virus alert being real, just run YOUR virus-detect BEFORE you reboot. Also, be aware that you should update your software before you manually run it.

I was also just wondering if anyone else was having similar trouble lately with xhamster.

I have Norton anti virus and I've run a full scan today - no threats found. I also have cleared my history and cookies. I seem to be ok now, but I haven't yet tried looking at xhamster again.

It could also be a pop up ad designed to look like a threat.

Okay, first, Norton has some ad-blocker software built in. The reason ads are blocked, is because some are invasive, seeking to obtain information about you, your browsing habits, etc. All for purportedly valid "marketing research" reasons (aka phishing).

Second, and now to pull the rug out from under you, anti-virus, anti-malware, etc, are at least one month behind the people that write viruses, etc. That is, if they have been able to detect it to begin with.

Yes, as someone else mentioned, this is a common problem with many websites (normally any pornsite) I don't remember especially that hamster was more problematic that any other porn website.

I had one saying contact this number etc etc. I clicked on taskbar and closed. When you open up explore again make sure your quick on exiting the screens that pop up. I did this on a trial and worked for me.

I'd agree with you. There are plenty of other sites you can visit. No need to play with fire.
