Today I was invited, and attended a charity brunch. Chicago House was the beneficiary and they work with people who have aids. They do wonderful work and have been around since 1985.

The event was really a very cool one. And, yes, given the interior design industry has been greatly affected by aids, and given that the interior design field is full of very charitable people, this event was filled with gay men.

I have to say from one who is a straight male with some curiousity, you guys know exactly how to throw a party!! :D

The fashion show was something else! Shit, I never heard of aussiebum before LOL. There were both men and women in the show and I imagine that if Lit ever put together a fashion show, it would be a lot like this one. Damn, there are some hot guys out there! Ohhh and the women in leather!!!

I digress, My real point in this is to push all of you to work, volunteer, or donate to a charity of your choice. Many of us go through our daily lives knowing we have it better than others, but I think rarely do we actually do something to change that. Today has made a difference in my life and I hope will end up making a difference in someone else's life.

Good on you!

I've been involved for years with Pine Ridge Reservation, have gotten many others involved with it, and even push a drive at christmas on the denizens of the AH every year. I have to give everyone here kudos - they've always responded most generously.

I've seen your threads on pine ridge...I've not yet done anything to help out there

Thanks for doing your part :rose:

Helping there is really very simple. A box of gently-used clothing, or some blankets, or a few toys at christmas....even personal hygiene products are all needed and all appreciated. :) There's usually an "urgent needs" list on the first page of the website I linked to, and sometimes it's as simple as toothbrushes for kids.

You're right...people really need to get involved and help somewhere, anywhere. It's helping others and sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.

Not in the position to put things together and send them, but I am going to give a bit for the utilities fund. Thanks

Thank you. You've made my night.

I do the same sort of thing as Cloudy for the local women's shelter. I've got a couple of boxes going all the time with personal hygiene products, used clothing, bedding, etc. When I buy shampoo or body wash, I buy extras and throw those in the box. Any samples or those little bottles from hotel stays go in there, too. Many of my son's discarded toys and books are now being used by the kid's there. A rocking chair I wasn't using was grabbed up before I made it through the door. Babies like to be rocked.

Sometimes it is amazing how something little or simple in our lives can make such a difference in the lives of others. I applaud you and everyone else who takes the time to think of others. :rose:

Most of my donations to Pine Ridge go either to the Women's and Childrens Center or to a Rehab Center for Teens.

The women's center especially needs things like clothing, hygiene products, etc, because many of the women and their kids arrive there with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

The blankets I make go to the rehab center. The patients take them home with them after they leave - it's part of their healing. We believe that a blanket made with someone's hands contains part of them, and when it's wrapped around you, it's as if you are being wrapped in their arms. One of my favorite beliefs. :)
