Help on a bitchy situation...?

So I know this has not a damn thing to do with BDSM, but I respect most of y'all's opinions, and would really like some insight on what I should do next.

Here's the scoop:

I am trying to get approved for AZ's low-income health insurance assistance. As I'm sure most of you would attest, health insurance is kind of important, hai? So anyway. Last Monday, I called the office to schedule an appointment for an interview, as per the letter I received in the mail. Well, the girl at the front desk only lets me get out that I got a letter before she says she'll transfer my call, and boom, I'm on my way.

I got a voice mailbox at the end of the transfer; well, this is government for ya, I didn't expect a live body on the first call. I left a message, with all the relevant info asked for, and said I needed to schedule an interview. HER message stated she would return my call within 24 hours. Cool!

Not.

Wednesday, figuring maybe my message just got lost in the bustle, I called again. Left another message, making sure I had the same persons extention; this time I -did- receive a rather prompt reply. She was very polite and apologised that the girl at the desk did not do her job properly, as I was forwarded to the wrong department. She was kind enough to transfer me to the people who can help.

So, I wind up at yet another mailbox. I left this new person a message, with name, case number, phone number, and the notice that I worked the next day, but I could be called there, too, and left -that- number.

Saturday I got a letter in the mail saying I'd gotten an appointment for a phone interview. Cool! I don't even have to go anywhere! ......Except that I work that day.

(I add, at this point, that this is the -second- time they have scheduled an interview without speaking to me first, or discerning if I had any work-schedule issues to take into account. This is why I wanted to personally schedule my appointment.)

So, on Monday morning, I call this woman back, and tell her that I received -this- letter, but that the 1st is a bad time, as I work. Now, I realise this is low income insurance, but that doesn't mean I -don't- work... on Wednesday... in the middle of the morning.

It is Tuesday night, and I have yet to receive a return call, for the second time, from this woman.

I plan to call tomorrow morning before work; what I am not sure of at this point is if I should try to get up early and see if I can get ahold of a supervisor? Or should I call this woman back -again- and make it clear that:

a) I am -not- happy, and
b) I expect to hear -something- back, that day, and
c) If I do not, and I am denied, again, because they could not follow through on their promise to call within 24 hours, I will be having rather heated words with someone in management there?

I really don't want to get bitchy on her ass -- confrontation, be it in person or via telephone, is not my strong point. But something perverse in me doesn't want to just let her off the hook, either, and I -want- to call her and make it clear that if she fucks me over, I will be -pissed-.

Any advice?

Ah the joys of the govt. Their should be a chain of command you can go. Normally, at least in Oregon, it starts with a from, that you can find at the office, to complain with. I would call her again. Sadly enough, it's the squeeky wheel that gets oiled. In other words if you wanna get anywhere with welfare, you gotta nag.

Nagging it is, then.

But if I call her at 8:30 am tomorrow, and have not heard a whit by the time I leave work tomorrow at 6, I will be making calls Thursday on my day off, and I will not be starting with her voicemail that time.

It'd be a simple matter of filing forms, if I had a vehicle or method of transportation. I'd take the bus, if I had the money to take it. It's been a tight week, and payday is Friday.

Yep, that's about right. Going down to the office always is a good idea, too. Then they have a face to go with the forms.

I'm an advocate of the just show up and present your problem in person method. I was having excessive female bleeding and the doctor's office gave me an appointment 2 weeks down the road (hello, I'm BLEEDING and need to see MY doctor) So after 3 days of runaround I showed up..and low and behold my doc had an appointment available the following morning! Good luck getting your insurance handled!

I'd try to nag the woman a bit more before you try to get hold of her supervisor. Might well be that she will be responsible for your case, and if they accept you, you might have to do with her again in the future. And if you piss her off by whining to her boss, she might not be willing to help you at all when you really need the help when you're sick.
If that doesn't work, yes, call her supervisor. Or try to get there somehow.

The only trouble with persisting in trying to get ahold of her for much longer, is that by not making tomorrow morning's appointment, I will be considered to have missed another appointment, which is usually cause for denial of application.

By trying to get ahold of her tomorrow, I'm already pushing it kind of close, but I'll give her one more chance. After tomorrow, it's past my second appointment day, and the missing of this one is -not- my fault. I'll -have- to go to someone higher up, if only because they're likely to be the only ones that can arrange to put a stop on my application denial.

are you dealing with a health insurance company that is contracyed by your state? If so you can contact the state and let them know your problem. They will have to inestigate and you will not be denied anything til they are done....which usually makes the insurance company get off their asses.

Jade, I don't know if you've already worked this out, as it's Wednesday now, but thought I'd toss in my 2 cents. I've dealt with AHCCCS myself, and it's frustrating to say the least. When you call next time, tell the girl answering the phone that you need to speak with a warm body, not voicemail. Explain to her that you've left messages, this is an emergency about an appointment. If she won't give you a warm body, then ask for the supervisor on duty and explain the situation. I guarantee that you'll get a response. Good luck!

KC -- Nope, I'm dealing with a government run, low-income health insurance. It's not exactly a company, it's more like Medi...care?caid? Whichever isn't for old folks. :) It's where you can go if you don't make a lot of money, and your job doesn't provide benefits.

I called this morning before work, at about 8:30 am. I told the voicemail that this was the third time I've called, and my last two calls have gone unanswered. I told her what I needed, and why it was so urgent. I did finish up by saying that if I wasn't able to speak to someone today, I was going to have to call tomorrow, and find a way to "speak to someone who's able to help me." I couldn't help it, I actually said that.

I'm a bitch when I first wake up.

RIGHT before we opened the doors at work today, the lady who was supposed to contact me for my phone interview (-not- the same lady I've been leaving messages for) called me at work, to let me know she'd been informed I needed to reschedule. SHE was incredibly nice, helpful, and polite, and I thanked her profusely. Hopefully, I'll be getting a call tomorrow for my phone interview -- if not, at least someone else knows that I need a new time, and I did not fail to contact them.

I -am- mildly miffed that this other woman couldn't be arsed to contact me herself; but I can't complain, as I -did- get contact, and at just the right time at work, too! (I'd have been SOOO frustrated if I was in a sitting and they called and whoever answered just took a message and said I'd call back. I was really worried about that.)

So, so far, so good. I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed. I've had just about enough of getting sick and not being able to do anything about it.

Just wanted to offer thanks to those who gave advice.

Took care of my phone interview this morning; now the only thing holding stuff up, actually, is me. :p

I need to get copies of my pay stubs -- I am notoriously bad at keeping those.

Then I'm all good to go! I guess it did pay to get a -little- bit nasty over the voicemail.

Congrats Jadefirefly. I know what a relief it is to get health insurance after not having it for a while.

Having been a gov't worker- maybe you should send a brief note to the office manager praising the second lady you talked to for her helpful attitude and ability to work with you? I know they appreciate hearing things like that and it looks good on one's promotion portfolio too.

Like I said, the squeeky wheel gets the attention. And I agree with Vixie - people who work in the welfare office rarely are thanked. It's part of the reason they have an attitude problem.

The first time I called this morning, I was put on hold automatically... when the girl finally answered, she says "Yes?"

.....

That was all.

When I realised she was talking to me, I told her what I needed -- she then proceeded to transfer me to Child Support. Who hung up on me immediately after answering the phone. I felt so welcome! :p

So while it all worked out, it wasn't without it's share of glitches. :D
