Help Naming Aliens

That is a very good point. I’ll reach out. It had never occurred to me to ask anyone about doing that.

Okay, I’ve decided. My aliens will be called the Sibillis, and an individual Sibill will be joining my fictional crew. Thank you to everyone, especially Enchantment_of_Nyx, for your help. I’m excited about this. I can’t wait to get my story on the site!

Thanks again,

Nouh

Like EON we all wait with baited breath. It seems there has been a few threads recently where the conversations have been about the ideas and wanting help and advise, it’s why I enjoy visiting and contributing to this sub forum in particular. It’s always been clear it’s been here to support and encourage writers so if ‘everyone’ has a story in them let’s read them. Purely from a time perspective I do not normally read stories Published in Lit, but hearing some of the embryonic discussions for interesting stories and themes as yours clearly is would definitely encourage me to read it. I appreciate the help. At some point I hope to be able to give a little advice instead of only asking for it.

I’m glad my story sounds interesting. I’ll hopefully submit Chapter 1 soon, although it’s much less weird than the story will get. (Gotta start somewhere, though, right?) I would just feel a little better if I get a thumbs up from an editor (or beta-reader, just someone other than myself) who says it’s ready to go.

Ahhhhhhh the fear and trepidation .... trust me it will be okay. If you need a little nudge out the door, no one will care once they are with you on the journey ..... while I think on that remember the hobbits saying ....you never know where that road leads, for me that is the beauty in writing ....

I read my name...

... i'm full into it. :)

As SF Fan i am (mostly Perry Rhodan and Peter F. Hamilton), i think i will give it a try.

Telepathic communication like Hamilton does it in one of his species:

Using Capital and Nouns only.

[LOVE BROTHER SISTER PROHIBITION]
[SISTER LOVE LIFE]
[BROTHER SISTER CHILD THREEEYED PROHIBITION]

And so on.

And yes, there are females out there who are reading Science Fiction without glittery vampires, who are playing games and so on.

Greetings
MF

I'm a big SF fan and when I was writing my Warrior One set of stories I need several names of some species we(humans) met on our explorations. I thought and thought and then decided to keep it simple.

For the main antagonist I named the Gar. It was simple and ominous at the same time as we(humans) had never really seen one.

For an allied species I used what would be called a contraction but never explained what it meant. K'lar.

There were several other species out there and I made up names for them too.

And of course, they all spoke different languages, but man in his infinite wisdom was able to translate them and create a translation button to wear on the collar of their uniform. They would also give them to the aliens.

Yeah, I partially handwaved away the translation issues, too. And, I just made up the other alien names I have, because it made sense to me that they would have their own languages that those sounds could have come from. So, I have the malorcs, whose names have a lot of Ls and Ps because they’re cave-dwellers so their words sound like water dripping into a puddle. I have the liths who are a bit snake-like so they use a lit of Ss and THs. For the sibillis, though, I thought the name needed to have a narrative origin that was actually written out in the story. I could’ve made one up, but that sounded...weak...to me. I don’t know. Either way I like what we came up with.

Hi, everybody. I'm not ready to publish chapter 1 just yet. I'm a slow writer, so I want to write a couple more chapters first. That will get me to chapter 6, which should be enough of a headstart to publish the rest of the series on a regular basis.

I wanted to post an image that Monikafotze sent me, though. It's an image she made of a malorc, one of the aliens from my story. They're very different from the sibillis, and by far the most human-like in the series.
Malorcs are cave-dwellers, and their sensory organs are larger than that of humans, and I love the subtlety here in how she put that in the image.
