help me please!! worperfect file lost

Hi all,
I need your help! I lost my paper in wordperfect! I am not sure, but i think that it was automatically saving, but i dont know how to find it! it is due tomorrow, so any help is welcomed...thanks so much!! browneyes26

Try doing a search for all files created during the approximate time period during which you lost it.

before i gave up i would search all files and folders using everything i could think of as in title, text words, file extensions,ect..ect. does word perfect backup in my documents or where did you have it set for? i use a floppy for back up in ms word set for every five minites.

what OS system are you running? xp has restore to a set point.

do you have Goback? or some other program like second chance?

i even back up my floppies on cdrw, cause i can fuck up a wet dream!

Thanks for all of the advice, but I did not have my system set to automatically save. I looked under every item that you mentioned, my file is nowhere to be found. Thank you so much!

Next time, I will be backing everything up for sure! Thank goodness that the paper was not worth a lot of points!!

I do a timed back up every 15 minutes. It's a slight pain because it creates duplicates of every file open for more than 15 minutes and your typing goes into the buffer for the few seconds it backs itself up. However, I have saved thousands of words, some of them deadlined, by doing this. If I were even smarter, I'd back everything up to external disks.

Tools -- settings -- files if you've forgotten.

I highly recommend it for anyone who does any word processing that they don't want to lose.


Riff, darling, we use WordPerfect because it's a superior word processor. Unlike some people, we don't settle for packaged software. The reveal codes feature alone makes WP a highly better choice than Word. I can't imagine trying to format anything without it.

If your file was lost because of a system crash, it may be in "lost clusters" that running scandisk can reassemble for you.

Run scandisk, and make sure it is set to "convert lost clusters to files." The use the find files function to find *.chk and examine each for parts of your paper. You can then use cut and paste to get the words back into Word Perfect.
