I am not sure where I heard it or where it is from.

The quote went something like this.

When I wask throught the valley of the shadow of death I fear no man because I know I am the baddest motherfucker in the valley.

or it could have gone like this

When I wask throught the valley of the shadow of death I fear no one because I am the baddest motherfucker in the valley.

The quote goes:

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no one - for I am the meanest motherfucker in the valley.

And it's from General Patton.

Thanks guys.

I figured it probably came from a bunch of sources and I can definetly see Patton saying it.

And he was fuckin' right about it too. I have an acquaintance that drove tanks for Patton. In the Bulge, this guy was hit three separate times including a grazing along his skull (he showed me the helmet with a 2" diameter hole in it) and he kept goin' along with the rest of the armoured division. Those guys knew no fear. I'm glad they're putting up a big memorial for the WWII generation on the mall.

Old Testement, Book of Psalms.

I was raised Catholic. We didn't remember verse numbers and stuff like that.

I'm posting pics of your girlfriend, Azwed. :)

Lovely

But I don't think they said baddest motherfucker in the valley in that.

I know the first part is from Psalms.

I was a church boy. Just Lutherun not catholic.

Azwed.... I thought your question was good, so I did a "little" internet search on the quote. It seems to have been used in the movie about Patton, but is not truely attributabile to him. It seems to have been an expression that was adopted by several different groups in the U.S. Marine Corps. The oldest reference I could find was the one quoted below from the Vietnam era. It was on the back of a Marine's flak-Jacket.

From my flak-Jacket - "Yea though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death I fear no evil because I'm the meanest mother-F----- in the valley."

Golf 2/5 Vietman '69--- Bill Hardy

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me."
~ Psalm 23:4 ~

Well I knew that part....didn't think that was what you were really looking for.

I haven't seen the Paton movie in a long time. That quote has just been going through my head a lot lately and I could not remember where I saw it. I thought someone here had said it or something.

That explains alot though thanks for the help.

Has anyone else felt like that in their life before???

I'm with Texan on this one... I have photos by Tim Page of Marines at Khe Sanh with the slogan displayed on the back of their body armour...

The phrase was popular among soldiers in Viet Nam, but I highly doubt George Patton ever said it. I've seen Patton about ten gazillion times and read several biographies on him, and I don't think he ever uttered that phrase. If someone has a source saying he did, I'd be interested in seeing it.

From what I can gather it was attributed to a grunt after A Shau Valley...

Well, I must stand corrected, because according to at least one website....

...Patton apparently did say the line in question. I can't say whether the information on this site is totally accurate or not, but we'll go with it until proven otherwise....

The reason this was mistaken for being from Pulp Fiction is that Jules used the quote from the bible right before he offed someone and was explaining to Vincint why he used the phrase, and that he now saw other meaning in it that made him want to 'get out' of the business, when they were sitting in the cafe right before they were held up by dippy and his tweeky spazz tit of a girlfriend, 'Honeybun'. The other part that got confused was that Jules' wallet said "Bad Motherfucker" on it....

"Uh, Which wallet is it?"

"It's the one that say "Bad Motherfucka" on it."

I first heard the line.......

as said by R. Lee Ermey as Sergant Loyce in "The Boys of Company C" - a Vietnam film from the early 80's. I really like this film. Charlie Company has a nutjob commander that thinks that to beat the enemy, you have to be able to beat him at his own game: Soccer. In the end, the boys play a soccer match against a Vietcong team called "The Dragons" - it's kind of "The Longest Yard" meets "The WW2 Stallone Movie That I Can Never Remember The Title Of - Oh...It's 'Victory'" meets <insert a Vietnam War movie title here>.

The quote is part of Sgt. Loyce's "Marine Corps Prayer" that he teaches the men their first night at Parris Island:

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil. For I am the biggest, baddest, meanest motherfucker in the valley. Goodnight, Chesty, wherever you are."

I'll bow to the weight of your research PC... I stand corrected... back to the books.
