I know this is a very long shot and I expect nothing but its a story I have been searching for for years now. At some point I might just write what I remember into a new story and see if anyone ever recognizes the original but I figure what the hell why not try this.
Main Plot points.
A man is driving a car through the back woods in what I believe was Appalachia or some other mountain chain most likely in the "south" where he becomes hopelessly stuck in the mud. He is rescued by a gruff, less then talkative or friendly farmer living in the middle of nowhere. The farmer lives in a tiny cabin void of any modern convinces and has virtually no contact with the outside world save for the "cart man" who comes every so many weeks to sell/trade over priced goods. The farm is located many miles from any town leaving the man stranded until the cart man travels through again. As my memory is a bit fuzzy I believe the end has the man leaving the farm, in love with the farmer but fearing his family and friends may be mourning his death. He arrives in the nearest town where he talks to the locals and finds that the farmers land is soon to be taken due to failure to pay taxes or something. The man settles the debt, purchasing the farm intent to go back as soon as he can.
Again, I expect nothing as if anything this story is ancient and considering the time I had put in after my computer died killing my book marks all those years ago and not finding it it may well have been pulled from the internet all together.
