How do you guys decide on things in your stories. For example character description place... Also I read that you should right about what you know. Like o if you have threesome write bout threesome had sex with mom write bout that... But I don't have things like that to write about and plus I don't think very many writers have had seeds with vampires or witches lol

I haven't had direct experiences to parallel many of the ones in my stories, but I've sort of osmosed them from reading other people's stories. For example, I have no personal experience of what a male's orgasm feels like, except from what he's exhibiting or telling me about during intercourse, which may not be helpful. But I think I've read enough of what men have written about to hazard a guess and write a persuasive sex scene from a male viewpoint.

What's more important than writing what you know is not writing what you don't know. Feigning expertise in a subject about which the reader knows far more than you do is always dangerous. So do your research, have your story vetted by somebody who has some experience in that area, and where possible, keep it vague ... talk about a place's climate rather than specific geographical facts. It's usually more important to say that the road was dusty and the humidity was high and that the sun was hot in the early afternoon than to say that the nearest town was 17.4 miles away, especially if somebody knows that the towns that your character is traveling between are only fourteen miles apart.

It comes from an informed imagination. 'Informed' by soaking up as much background as possible about people, places, things, and actions. And yes, research. If I'm going to write about a gal piloting an autogyro, I'd better study autogyros a bit. 'Imagination' then kicks in to churn out a story decorated by those people, places, things, and actions.

How I setup a story: I think of my characters -- who is a player in this show? I put them in the appropriate locales, maybe places I know well and can describe minutely, maybe places only vaguely outlined. I work up a few plot points, not a strict script, just some actions that MUST happen, maybe with some plot gerbils for further decoration.

Then I set the players loose and let them make up the story. I merely transcribe them. It's easy once I get that far. Usually. Unless the voices in my head tell me not to write for awhile.

I think you need to start further back than your questions in your post. You should practise writing when you post on Literotica. If your post is how you normally write then you need to use tools such as a spellchecker.

I have rephrased your post to give you an example:

How do you decide on things in your stories? For example how do you describe a character or place?

I read that you should (right) write about what you know.

Does that mean you can write about a threesome only if you have experienced a threesome? Or you must have had sex with your mom before you can write about that?

I don't have experiences like that to write about.

I think 'Write about what you know must be wrong'. I don't think very many writers have had seeds with vampires or witches.

Writing about what you know is a maxim, a rule, for beginners. It is a starting point. If you can describe somewhere you know well then you can move on to giving a description of another invented place.

If you can describe a friend or family member so that someone who doesn't know them would recognise them at an airport, then you can describe an invented person. (Aside - NEVER use real people in your fiction!)

Those two examples are 'writing about what you know'. They are exercises to get you started.

But it still applies later. If you are writing science fiction or fantasy then the world in which the story is set must be consistent and logical. What do you know about the world? If you created it, what are the rules, the physics, the chemistry, the magic - and what are their limits? You as the creator must KNOW that world and not make a mistake by allowing a character to do something impossible in that world.

Write about what you know is an idea to think about when you are writing. If I wanted to write a story based in Los Angeles I would have to do a lot of research first. I don't 'know' Los Angeles well enough to avoid basic mistakes. But if my research is good enough, I could set a story in Los Angeles and someone living there wouldn't be able to say 'You got that bit wrong'.

Back to basics. Before you start on descriptions of people and places, think about writing in full sentences with no abbreviations and no txt speak. Practise writing. Practise telling stories. Writing is an art that can be learned.

I use whats available.

I'm working on a prison tale. My old man did some time for armed robbery, so I know a little about his experience, a close relative was a guard at the road camp featured in COOL HAND LUKE at Taveres, Florida. And I've found plenty of official records and ex-con recollections of life in the joint. My story will be plausible tho not 100% gnats ass authentic.

Hey, I write a lot of Sci-Fi, but I have never been in space or a spaceship. I did however read a lot of Sci-Fi as a kid and young adult.

I have had a lot of sex, but never a threesome. Although there were three of us in the bed each young lady took me by one at a time, but I could imagine what it would have been like if they had taken me together.

I have never had sex with my mother, cousin, aunt, etc., but it's just two people having sex whose names are Mom & Son, I know about sex between two people. Changing names and adding some drama about being related was all that was needed.

Use what you lived, only in a different way. Add a twist. Change a name(s).

Good luck and welcome.
