I did go for canon.. I went for the ixus 70 in the end and I am very pleased with it too.. It doesnt have many options, but does what I need it to. Managed to take some lovely pictures during my trip, especially during the snow today!
The view one i did have to rest it on that girder (hence why its so obvious in the pic,) but I guess it turned out quite nicely. The other was just a snap shot whilst I went for a walk today.
