Hello From My Englishness

Hope everyone is holding up as we head into week.... 7? Can it really be 7 already?

Went for a longer stroll than usual and saw some beautiful cherry trees in bloom. Was lovely and yet a little sad to think I could have missed them entirely this year!

There was some lovely blossom here until the rain a few days ago stripped it from the trees.

Week 7 and I can honestly say none of the little jobs I listed to do during lock-down have been completed. A couple have been started though...
Am I alone in this?

I'm managing about 1 job per day, mind you Sunday is a day of rest. The Archers is now on 'best of' repeats and I'm starting a 1000 piece jig saw puzzle

Nope, not alone. I've never done so little. I have no inspiration to do anything other than get through this with my sanity .... and I think I'm struggling with that :(

Is it really week 7? God I haven’t achieved much... I’m ashamed of myself. I could be learning a language or taking an online course... but no. I did sort out my spice cupboard and put all my herbs and spices in matching jars. I can’t tell you how satisfying that is.

I’ve started to watch Unorthodox on Netflix. I love it. It’s only when I watch something I love that I realise how little control I have about what gets watched in our house... and there’s so much shit. Perhaps it’s time for another TV.

Yes, Unorthodox is fabulous. Yes, there's so much shit on TV. Yes, you should get another set. And a pair of good headphones.

I tidied out my spice cupboard.too. threw out the best before 2012 jars, 9 of them!

Haven't seen unorthodox, what's it about?

New puppy takes up much of my time and energy

This sounds very familiar! Safe to say you are not alone

Unorthodox is a 4 part drama about a young woman who flees her claustrophobic Hasidic Jewish husband and community and flees to Berlin. Her husband and his dodgy cousin are sent to bring her back. It’s based on an autobiography which I did contemplate buying but I’m not sure I can handle the misery. I’ve got a few books on my bookshelf that I should read like The Tatooist of Auswitch which I can’t bring myself to read right now. I need optimism right now.

I'm quite luckily in that my work isn't really affected, still working my shifts.

Am missing the social interactions though. Amazing how much even just minor interaction matters when you're not getting it. Hence my return to lit.

I will admit to sorting out spice and herb bottles a couple of weeks ago too but not to the extent of putting them in alphabetical order. I chose a colour coded solution - green for herbs - red for hot spices etc etc.

I did manage to mow the grass yesterday which was quietly satisfying!

Our gain. I completely understand, I'm here a lot more than I have been in months too, and others I know are coping similarly.

Working would be lovely. I'm used to dealing with people all of the time so it's very strange to me.

Well done on the grass cutting! Want to come do the rest of my stupid fully decked garden? I'm 1 and a half bottles of decking oil in and will probably use all of the 1 and a half I have left. If we ever get round to moving to another place I refuse to have decking. Give me slabs and a pressure washer any day

Why is it that painting someone else's decking sounds like a much more attractive option than painting my own picnic table?

Spice cupboard clear out is level I've been achieving up till now, but my decking oil finally arrived last night (only took 3 weeks) and I've finally started something a bit more substantial. I hate doing it so I'll probably do as little as possible afterwards as a reward. Stupid decking.

Didn't realise you had a new pup in the fold, Pol. Have you tried to introduce him to "our Nick" yet? Got to make sure the pups are social...

Nick is aware of pup, waved a paw, sniffed his arse and wagged tail. Im hoping to oil my kitchen worktops, amason delivered oil a week ago, opened the package yesterday so no excuse, One step at a time. Shed needs tidying but that can fucking well wait.

What are your worktops? I've made bread for years, often with granary or grainy type flours, so the worktop (oak) gets a lot of wear. Originally I used wood oil products, safe for near food, but I've discovered that olive oil, totally food, no additives to worry about, works just as well, I oil that worktop about every week, it's no biggy.

The last I remember your shed had blown down (?)

We've sorted our shed out, cleared of spiders (for now) and out stuff on shelving. Slowly tidying the front garden and landscaping it.

I think its beech. using osmo top oil, clear satin. I've used Olive oil in a previous house, it's fine but SO disagrees. Ergo anything fir a quiet life. Thanks all the same

I read that last month. Couldn't put it down, read it in one sitting. Maybe I should read it again, it may put lockdown into perspective.

'Cilka's Journey' is next in the list.
