Hello forum, and a question- is my name offensive?

Hello, I'm new to the forum but so far it looks like the kind of place worth losing hours of my very important time in.

So far I haven't posted much but I have submitted a story. By way of feedback somebody told me they didn't read it becous they found my name offensive (thats not feedback, that's just being an unseen sniper, but anyway...) I am curious to know if alot of people find it offensive.

When I thought up a name it just kind of- appeared in my mind from nowhere and demanded that I use it, but then of all the racist insults- jungle bunny has always seemed to me to be the weakest and most un-offensive, hardly qualifying as the kind of serious slur that any self-repecting racist would preffer to use. I mean 'jungle bunny'!? is that like calling a white person a 'forest bunny' or something? in fact to me it seems exactly as strong as that, for insult value I mean.

But if people really are strongly offended by the name I will consider changing it or something- I just thought it was cute is all.

This is a good point, actually I don't think there are any rodents in Africa and other preditor-rich tropical environments other then rats (rats can take care of themselves).

Ok, I have NO idea why this is, but the nick didn't bother me when I thought you were female. I'm assuming from the "handsome" comment that you're male and that completely illogically made me wince. Not that you're a guy. The combo of the name and gender.

I know it's completely illogical. I know that. I recognize it. But the question was "what's your emotional reaction to the name?" That was it.

Conversely, if you happen to be black then I revert to not having a problem with it. I think members of a group are fully entitled to take a slur and make it their own like "Queer Nation" did, for example.

As the old saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression". If you're really seriously concerned about rubbing people the wrong way you'd change the name while you still have minimal posts.
