I know I haven't been around much lately..
I'm getting a social life back somewhat.. yay! lol.

Anyway, I had a scare the other night.

Valentine's Day, I was at work. When I went on break, my chest started feeling funny. No big deal, whatever. Well, it didn't go away.
So it was later that night, I was helping another employee do the floors, and we'd finally finished. So I walked up front to get a drink, and the other three employees all said at the same time, "Are you okay?" "Stop doing the floors." "Go sit down!"
I did feel a little.. odd, but thought they were overreacting. But, I went and sat and tried to cool down.
The next thing I know, they're coming out to the lobby, asking if they want me to call an ambulance.
I didn't know it at the time, but I'd went pale.

I sat there for about 20 minutes, cooling down and relaxing a little, but still didn't feel right. There was a tightness in my chest and I could feel my heartbeat vibrating out through my arms and legs. Finally, I gave in and told them to call the squad.
Well, the squad came, took my vitals, and did a little EKG on me.
The EKG looked fine, but my heart rate was up.
Then came time for the blood pressure.
It was 190/100. Not good. At all.

Luckily it's a small town, so I knew the paramedics, and jokingly asked if I was going to die, and asked if I needed to go to the ER. They said it was up to me. At that pont I didn't feel that bad, so I declined.

So the next day, I went to my family doctor. They took blood, did an EKG, I had chest x-rays.... then he hooked me up to a portable EKG thing I had to wear for 24 hours.
In the meantime, that day my blood pressure was still up, but a lot better. It was only 144/98.
He also prescribed blood pressure medicine.

Yesterday morning I had to go in and have an ultrasound done of my heart. My mom went went with me and asked the tech how it was looking. He said 'good so far.' Then at the end he said, "Don't expect any bad news when you talk to your doctor."
Thank god. All these tests are making me nervous!

I don't know anything yet, and won't until the 28th when I go back for my follow-up appointment.
All I do know is that I'm 22 years old and on blood pressure medicine. Unreal. Oh, and I'm not allowed to have caffiene. What kind of bullshit is that? LOL.
My chest has felt better- it hasn't thumped and hasn't been fluttery, but the medicine is messin' with me. I get dizzy and I'm just tired. Plus I get weak pretty quick. Luggin' boxes of fries around and work isn't as easy as it was.
So between caffiene withdrawls (lol) and the meds, I am freakin exhausted.
It's going to be a couple weeks before I'm normal again, lol.

Okay, that is all.. I just wanted to let you guys know. :)
Back to your regularly scheduled posts. :)

Have a lovely day!

Em, almost the same thing happened to me a few years ago. I cut the caffeine and it went completely away. I don't know if that will work the same for you, but cutting caffeine is a pretty good idea anyway. You only need it if you make yourself need it.

*hugs* love, hope you feel much better really soon :rose:

I've pretty much given up on caffeine apart from the odd cola to add to my rum. I feel alot better when i don't have it than when I do :)

Kitten - I'm so glad to hear they haven't found anything serious. Please keep us informed and know that you're in our hearts!

Thanks for the well wishes guys and gals. :rose:

Hello, my name is Kitten, and I'm a caffiene addict. :)
I know I am. All I drink is Diet Coke and coffee, lol. And occasionally Red Bull.

Hopefully cutting the caffiene will help a lot...
It's still sad, and this decaf bullshit is for the birds, LOL.

Mmmmmm yessssss, oohh it's sooo good... mmmm decaf is yummy!
*Glares accusingly at the cup of decaf coffee on the computer stand* :D

Check around. There is a lot of good decaf stuff out there. You just have to look until you find it. Caffeine doesn't add flavor, so that's not what you're missing. You just have to find something where the decaffeination process doesn't change the flavor all that much. The best luck I've had with decaf coffee is Starbucks. It tastes the closest to the original that I've found. Once you get past that part you'll not miss the caffeine. And you'll sleep better and wake up easier.

I still have a little caffeine on occasion, though. I do it so that I don't overdose on it like what sent me to the ER.

Oh yes. i'm betting that - because of this statement - most of your problem is caffeine.

Been there, done that with having to cut it out. It wasn't pretty. Boota is right, though. There's lots of good stuff that's not caffeinated. Certain sodas, certain brands of coffee, even tea. ;) You just have to look around and find what you like.

EmeraldKitten:
The good news is that you caught the problem in time! The bad news is that caffeine is not for you. The worse news is that your caffeine intolerance is very likely to get WORSE as you get older. I would suggest that you make a major effort to eliminate caffeine from your life. If you don't use it, you don't miss it after a while. Good luck!

Just glad you're all right. Next time, go to the damned Er! My roomate has an arrithmia(sp?) and too much caffine can kick it off. She refused to go to the docs, and after tha ambulance had gone, it got worse rather than better. Her lips, literally truned blue. And i had to drive her over the mountain at mach II to get her to the ER. IN all seriousness, when it's your heart/chest/lungs, don't risk it.

*HUGS*

Feel better!

Red Bull can mess with you - it has other stimulating compounds in it besides caffeine as well. AVOID!

Also, drink lots of non-caffeinated fluids (BP meds can screw up your fluid balance and make you dizzy). Try flavored seltzer or water (sugar free).

Em, take care of yourself. We need you around here to tone up this joint. Be sure to keep us posted, take your meds, and do what da doc says.

It's tough kicking a caffeine addiction, but "Caffeine Free Diet Coke" is one helluva lot better than Ensure through a feeding tube.

I've had enough of friends in the hospital for now, thank you very much!

Tke care of yourself baby doll...

I am thinking its not the caffiene but a nutrasweet reaction. Maybe try cutting out diet products?

Good Luck, and I hope you feel better

Please take care of yourself Em
I do hope you find out the root problem
and your health improves quickly
Your presence around here is too valuable to lose you
Get better quickly
