Crazy Kev

It was just another day in Greenville, Kevin slipped on his black jeans and t-shirt, following it with his jacket, like most of his apparel it was black as well, but leather. The start of another week, another week spent listening to stories spoken about the crazy boy when they know they can be heard. He heaved a sigh and grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder. As he came to the front door, his father's voice rang out from the kitchen.

"Kevin?! You want breakfast?!"

Kevin grimaced, he hated the times his father tried to be normal.

"No thanks, late as it is."

He didn't wait for the response, he closed the door behind him and jogged down the street, it would not do to start the day late now would it? In fact he made the bus just in time and took his usual seat right at the back of the bus. The Jocks tend to melt away from him and when he decided to take that spot for himself nobody tried to stop him, nor did they complain. At the school he got off last and trudged his way to his locker room, most children just ignoring him or moving away from him. It didn't bother him at all, he opened his locker, stored his bag inside and pulled out his books. Closing and locking the locker he heard one of the cheerleaders mention to another as they walked past that one of the girls didn't feel that well, aparantly a stray dog bit her, but she should be in school a bit later. He grimaced, must have tasted bad for the poor dog.

Rusty

Rusty sat on the tailgate of his truck, bullshitting with a couple of guys from the football team, smoking a cigarette, and throwing a wave and a friendly smile to anyone who glanced in their direction as they walked past. Alot of them, he had no clue who they were; but that didn't mean he couldn't be nice, right? Besides it seemed to really rankle the ones who wrinkled up their noses, or loudly exaggerated a cough at his cigarette smoke. Party poopers, he thought. Why couldn't everyone relax and just have a little fun? His thoughts drifted to that girl he'd sen in the library the other day. She seemed shy and Rusty thought she might be new to the school. If he sae her again, he would strike up a conversation he decided. The bell rang, so the boys dubbed out their cigs, closed up Rusty's truck, and ambled off to metal shop.

Akira Takashi

Akira started out the day as any other. wake up, shower, brush teeth and put on his school uniform. Even though these American schools didnt have a dress code he proffered the uniform. though it made him home sick for his native japan he bared with it.

As always his father had already left so akira ate his breakfest while watching the news. something about more rabid dogs then normal in the city was the top story. Akira paid little attention. Finishing his breakfest and cleaning up he grabbed his back pack and bokken and left the house.

As always he took his dirt bike to school. since his first class was study hall Akira decided to skip it and walked behind the gym to practice his kendo.

Lily was eating her breakfast when the news came on, 'Warning Rabid Dogs.' she shivered as she watched the amateur video recordings of some 'so called' rabid dog.
Sighing she put her dish in the sink and grabbed her bag, looking around it was like any other day no one to say good bye to. shrugging she ran to catch the bus.

Finding a seat had always been a challenge especially when everyone else seems to have their own groups, biting her bottom lip she sat down on one of the free seats, sitting as close to the window as possible. She knew that no one would mind her being there, they never did.

It was when the bus had pulled up to the school that she noticed the scene outside, a girl was being rushed into an ambulance clutching her arm, frowning the news story from this morning ran through her mind once more. Grabbing her bag once more Lily made her way through the busy corridors. she could not be bothered with first class so she decided to go to the Library. No one hardly used it and it meant to she could be left to her thoughts.

Crazy Kev

The bell had rung and Kevin sat in his usual spot, waiting for the teacher to show up, a spitball came flying his way and he just casually moved to the side. He knew who had thrown it, but no harm done so no action requered. Finally the teacher Mr. Daniels showed up, he immediately started droning. Kevin listened, but since he had studied for today's lesson, he didn't really focus on Mr. Daniels' monotone about atoms and molecular mass. As usual he sailed by without being noticed or being asked a question, it seemed that his smart ass answers and reputation got him either ignored or evaded, not that he worried about it, as long as he kept up his points in the lower A range the less his dad complained.

The bell rang and a general commotion broke loose as everybody headed for the door, Kevin followed, but with no particular haste. He noticed a cluster formed at the lockers, but there was enough room for him to scoot past, a collective gasp made him look around and through the bodies he could see Ashlyn Adams passed out on the ground, he shrugged, opened his locker and got out his next set of books when a shrill scream made him look around again. The crowd was breaking up, disbelief and shock clear on every face. Kevin could see Ashlyn actually chewing on another girl's face. That wasn't normal was it? He realized suddenly that he was standing the closest, the girl had stopped screaming and Ashlyn was looking at him with dead eyes, growling like some freakish monster as she stumbled to her feet and came shuffling towards him.
He sighed, if this was a prank it wasn't funny, he closed his locker, turned his back on Ashlyn and walked away, flipping her the bird as he walked away.

"Your jokes suck as bad as you do."

The snarling increased and the other students actually tried to flee, almost starting a stampede, but they had nowhere to go as the safety doors was locked, as it usually was during school time. Kevin frowned,

"Come on, enough is enough."

One of the cheerleaders shouted suddenly,

"It's not a joke you sick freak!"

Kevin sighed and decided that if they wanted to imitate zombies, Ashlyn will pay for it. He looked over his shoulder, Ashlyn was almost on him, reaching for him, a side-step and a hard back hand sent her reeling. She just snarled and came at him again, that was not possible...well not if she was human. A thrust kick sent her into the lockers, again she came at him, seemingly very pissed off now.

"What the fuck?"

This time he didn't hold back, a swivel of the hips, a side-thrust kick straight to the face snapped her head back, a loud crack followed as she hit the lockers again, this time leaving a blood smear behind. Kevin looked down at her body and actually realized that he had killed her, no scream of horror or murderer followed, just a surge as the other students rushed passed him to the exit leading to the school yard, just as they passed the girl that Ashlyn had bitten a shout went up. By the time the others had backed away, she had already bitten two of them and was shuffling forward, fingers curled and hissing like mad. Shit had just gotten serious.

Lily was busy reading when she heard the echoing of a commotion outside. Sighing she tried concentrating on her book once more the screaming continued, sliding her chair out she put her ok down and walked to the door. Peeking out she noticed the corridor was empty as was normal this time of the day. Walking out a little she looked both ways she could hear the commotion, probably just another fight she shrugged and was about to go back in when she stopped.
The body slammed into the locker to her right, Lily's hand was still on the door handle as she stood and stared, the body of the boy was slumped she could see he was breathing, turning a little she was about to go and see if he was ok when another boy walked towards him. Putting her hand over her mouth she muffled her scream as she saw the boy pick up the other by the throat and bite him, she could hear the blood squirting out of the major vein in his neck.
Wide eyed with shock she could only stand there, she gripped the door handle a little tighter, trying not to make a noise she slowly opened the door, biting her lip when the door clicked when the lock came loose. Turning she breathed a little easier as none of them had noticed her, slipping inside she leaned against the door and locked it. It was a sick prank she thought but the blood seemed real enough, taking her shoes off she walked to the window and looked out there were people running everywhere, she could make out some with blood on them.
Grabbing her cell she opened her blog, 'in school library people have gone crazy what should I do?' she posted she knew she had no contacts to ring so hopefully someone would see it, sitting on the floor she listened to the commotion outside the locked door.

Rose-Lee Franklin

The music was turned up moderately loud, as usual in the shop class, and as students went about their daily tasks nothing was out of the ordinary. The room was large enough to house drills, welding gear, work benches, a lathe, and enough storage space to store all the necessary tools. Along one of the walls were four cars. Two looked like they had just been dragged in off the street, they were in various states of disarray. Another looked like a modern car getting its standard check, and a student was currently checking its spark plugs. The forth car was of classic vintage, but it had been partially sanded back, almost ready for a coat of paint. Its bonnet had been propped up, and a small framed student worked away on its engine.

By now most of the guys had given up on making snipe or crude remarks, although every now and then they couldn't help themselves. Unlike most of the autoshop students, only two were girls. And one was less than physically pleasing. Rose on the other hand looked as though she should have been in a hair salon, doing nails or make up. After growing up on the farm, a hard days work didn't necessarily mean she had to look dog ugly.

Her mother had been Japanese, and she had skin that looked as though she had spent hours working on her tan. With naturally black hair, she altered her look by dying it a deep red colour. And she felt it suited her personality.

Bent over, her overalls covered in a small amount of grease and oil already, she had been replacing the cooling hoses and fan belt. For days she had worked tirelessly just to get the engine ready to start up. She knew it worked, but the Shelby would require a month of work to make it 'pimped out'.

The class was dismissed with the ring of the bell, and Rose took a moment to wipe sweat off her brow and grab a drink. Walking over to the stereo she waited for the last student to leave the room before increasing the volume. Her head bodded in time with the electric guitar that started its solo, and she sung a few lines.

It was recess now, and she planned on getting the engine together before heading off for her next class. World History or something. She didn't even hear the sounds of confusion and distress in the halls, as the music she played drowned it all out. Anyone out in the hallway, or near the building would hear her rock and metal taste in music.

Leo Storm

Leo sat quietly in the back of the room. The teacher was done with his lesson and there were only a few minutes left before the bell rang and before recess, which he didn't much care for anyway. He flipped to the next page in his book, deep blue eyes flicking up to glance at the girl staring at him, her entire body turned around to face him. He raised an eyebrow questioningly at her.

"You have nice eyes," she commented with a smile.

The bell rang.

Leo closed his book and slid his things into his bag, standing and throwing it over his shoulder without responding. He walked out of the class and down the hall, heading to the library where he usually spent his recess time. He raised a hand to move a strand of hair out of his eyes as he found a group of students running at him. Or, rather, away from something else. He slipped into the nearest room, closing the door behind him quietly. Not that it would have mattered with the blaring music.

He set his bag down on the nearest table as the group ran by, being chased by a couple other students. He figured it was some stupid prank, so he turned to walk into the shop room, looking over all the tools and projects, eventually coming to a group of cars. He could identify each car's make and model if he wanted, but cars weren't his favorite subject. He could do a mechanic's job, but he wasn't anything special with tools, and there were plenty better at it than him.

He walked to the final car in the line, which was still being worked on, and noticed the small student working away at it. He raised his hands and turned back around.

About then was when he noticed the blood smear across the door's window and heard the screams even over the music. He tilted his head and started towards the door, stopping suddenly when a bloody figure burst through the door and set its dead eyes on him. He knew they were dead. His right foot slid back half a pace, his hands resting lightly at his sides. The man started towards him, reaching out with his blood-covered hands and snarling at him. Leo didn't move an inch. When the man's hands were about to connect, Leo dropped to his hands, swinging his legs around in a wide circle and scything the man's legs out from under him.

Leo swung around, kicking the man back up in the air before he hit the ground, then spinning on his hand and then delivering a thundering straight kick at the still-airborne form, sending him crashing into a nearby cabinet, which opened and dropped a heavy sledgehammer on the man's head, which gave way with a wet crack. Leo landed on his feet lightly, his hands open in front of him, slightly crossed. Satisfied the man wasn't standing back up, he let his hands return to his sides. He walked over and carefully turned off the music.

"You know anything about this?" he asked the red-haired girl with a gesture at the corpse calmly, as if he hadn't just killed someone.

Crazy Kev

Kevin soon found himself battling to not get swept up and crushed as the other students tried to flee, which effectively placed him at the forefront of the attack. The first attacker shuffled straight into a knee to the stomach, followed by a hammer fist to the base of the skull, a loud snap and the body fell lifeless to the ground, a hand gripped his shoulder, he grabbed the hand and pulled, bucking his knees and pulling the body over his shoulder, swiveling into the move, making the body land with a loud crash on it's head. It seemed that bashing in the head or snapping the spinal column did work like they did in the horror movies.

He spun on one heel and landed a solid round house kick, lifting the shuffling corpse from it's feet as it's head almost seemed to snap off. He grabbed a nearby fire extinguisher, raised it high and slammed it over the head of another zombie, yup these were classical zombies, just their rate to transform was much faster than in the stories. Another swing and crunch and the hallway was cleared, but a scream from behind him along with a new rush carried him forward, he crashed into a door, shoved it open and slipped inside, forcing the door closed and locking it. He slumped against the door, breathing deeply, then looked around, he was in the library.

Akira breathed heavily as he took stock in his surrounding. all along the hallway where dead bodies. His bokken dripping blood and grey brain matter. They had attacked him as he came in from practice. In that moment all his training had taken over and he had dispatched 3 of these things. Now he slowly walked along the hall when he saw another student slip into the shop room. He looked down at his bokken and relized he was going to need a better weapon or even a real sword. Following along he walked in right as the other student landed a devistaed blow on the dead. Akira answered for the girl.

"for lack of a better term they are zombies."

Akira calmly started looking at all the tools and things in the shop trying to figure out a best course of action to make a weapon.

With the sudden silence caused by someone shutting off the radio, Rose turned around. Of course she hadn't expected to see Leo standing there, in his creepy sort of silent, calm and collected type of way. She shared only one subject with the boy, but had never really spoken beyond exchanging names during the first class of the term. Looking at the buckled locker, and the mess that had been made by the boy's fighting, she was almost about to yell an insult about immaturity. But on closer inspection, as she stepped forward to notice that the boy that Leo had been fighting was indeed dead, her eyes went wide with shock.

"You killed him!" she began, instinctively picking up the heavy wrench that she had been using and keeping it close on hand.

Just as suddenly, an asian boy entered the room. She had mixed feelings about this one. Akira was a good student from what she eavesdropped, and had never acted disrespectfully. Basically he seemed to be a standard Japanese student, somewhat out of place in his neat uniform.

Glancing at his bokken, she identified more blood and tissue dripping from it and stepped back.

Did he say zombie?

Looking at the body, it did look very different. Wasn't it Jeff from her Science class? He was a tool, but he wasn't someone she thought would ever attack another person. Not in a to the death fight at least. His eyes had changed, and his face (what was left of it after the sledgehammer had worked its magic) had contorted. He looked evil, gross and pale like he was dead. Well, he was. But he should have still looked a little pink, especially since in his living moments he had bright freckles and red cheeks half the time.

"I don't know what you guys are up to, but just stay where you are, okay?" she slowly spoke, moving over to pick up her bag. Taking out her phone, she tried to call the head office, but nobody answered. With a puzzled look, she switched on the school blog site. Skipping through the most recent updates.

'Some freak just tried to grope me'

'The chess club, for once, is making way too much noise next door...'

'in school library people have gone crazy what should I do?'

'What is going on!!!!!! Why is....OMG...'

'Anyone reading this, get out! Now!'

Most seemed like normal updates, but as he read on, they seemed to get more and more frantic. The last caused her to reassess the problem.

Maybe Jeff had been going crazy, even if this zombie thing is just a sick joke.

Typing into the blog, she commented on one of the blogs, a girl called Lily.

Stay put, its all over the school, we'll try and come get you. Rose-Lee.

Closing her phone, she slipped the strap to her bag over her shoulder and began to head for the door. But the sound of someone screaming outside caused her to stop in her tracks.

"Should we arm ourselves? Would we get in trouble?"

Akira looked over the walls of the shop. While the bokken was still in decent shape it would do for long. Finally he spotted a 3 foot pipe leaning against the wall. Picking it up he checked the heft and balance. Well not a real sword but good enough for now.

While taking a few practice swings he answered rose
"if you want to live I suggest you grab something. As for trouble...some one attacks me I'm defending myself. Simple as that. Besides here's a better question is it the school or all over? I left my cell phone in my locker so I haven't tried to call the police. "

Lily was huddled into one of the corners at the library, her cell phone tightly in her hand. the screaming had become deadly silent now but she wasn't going to take any chances.
Checking the blog she noticed a reply from one of the other students, typing away she replied.

"Be careful, everything is quiet now but i can hear echoing, will try school computers."

With that Lily got up and walked to the computer desk, happy her socks were cushioning her footsteps, turning on one of the desktops she looked at the local news, everything seemed choatic! THE DEAD WALK ! that was one headline, another 'STAY INDOORS' "Great." she muttered.
Leaving it running she heard the breathing of another person from inside the library, biting her bottom lip she grabbed one of the other keyboards off the computer and armed herself, creeping around she peeked from behind one of the book shelves, and stopped when she saw another student lying against the locked door.

Leo Storm

Leo tilted his head and glanced behind him at the student who answered for the girl. Akira was his name. Strange name for a boy, as it had a definite feminine tone. He turned back to the girl as she looked up. Her name was Rose-Lee Franklin. Rose for short, he had heard people call her. He turns his gaze around the shop, stepping away slightly and pulling out his phone. He goes through various websites for the school to read through the updates, then to the local town news center. Evidently, things were not alright.

He pockets his phone and turns to look over the multitude of tools in the shop, walking over to pick up a hand saw. Dead battery. Figures. Last student to use it apparently hadn't charged the battery when he'd finished. Or turn it off, even. So, without that item to use, he opted for a skinning knife found in a drawer on the opposite side of the room.

"We should leave. It's not a good idea to linger in the school." he said quietly, listening to the scream.

"The library is the best bet to find any living souls. Most of the students here hated the library, anyway." he continues, stepping towards the door.

Crazy Kev

Kevin heard a sound and got to his feet in an instant, hands up and ready to deal death...but the sight that met him was so hillarious that he just had to smile. A student stood there staring at him with a keyboard in her hands. He lowered his hands,

"Hi I'm Kevin, I don't know what the hell is going on out there, but I would want to get out of here as fast as possible."

Lily

Lily stood there her knuckles white as they gripped on to the keyboard it wasn't till after a few moments she realised what the guy had just said.
"sorry." she mumbled putting the keyboard down on the nearest table, putting a nervous hand through her hair she smiled awkwardly, "I'm lily."
Gazing behind him she nodded to the door, "it still bad out there?" she didn't really need an answer as you could hear the faint screams coming from a distance.
She stood there a little helpless she had never been good at socialising, "you hurt anywhere?" was all she could whisper before looking down at her feet.

Crazy Kev

"Yes it is still bad, judging from what I saw it have only begun to get worse."

He ran his fingers through his hair and walked over to a table, he sat down on the surface,

"No I'm fine, thanks."

It was the first time that anybody had ever spoken more than a sentence to him which did not contain some kind of mocking. He was at a loss to say anything further, so he looked at the book titles closest to him. A loud crash against the door made him jump from the table, he grabbed the window pole and stood ready. For a long couple of tense moments he stood at the ready, but nothing happened so he relaxed again, he went back to his seat and sat down again, the window pole close to him.

Lily

Lily sat opposite Kevin and looked down at her hands. This was probably the longest someone else has been with her. Sighing she pulled out her phone and once more checked the blog.
Opening up a new post she wrote,

'kev is here, he is not hurt but said its bad out there. Shall we stay?'

It did make her feel a little better having someone there but the awkward silence was getting abit to much. "erm..." she muttered before shuffling in her seat, "I'm just going to...." she pointed to the computers and walked over, rebooting the one she checked earlier.

'WORLD HAS WENT CRAZY' was the new headline sighing she put her head on the desk and cursed under her breath. It would just be her luck!

Rose-Lee Franklin

After processing what the others had said, Rose decided to run with it, and looked around the room herself. She felt comfortable with a wrench in her hand, but it just didn't have enough reach. Although, at this point she didn't know that the virus was spread through bites and other saliva/blood based contamination.

Picking up the sledge hammer, she swung it a few times, but it seemed to be too slow, and too heavy to be that useful.

To be honest, she had no idea what sort of weapon would prove to be good against such creatures. So she decided to watch the others, and eventually caught on to the fact that a long reach weapon would be ideal.

Hearing the whirring of the welding gear, she looked over the tools that scattered the table. Picking up the spiked hammer used for tapping loose weld away, she thought it might prove to be a good start. Taking a length of piping from a bin not too far away, she slipped a welding mask on.

"Watch your eyes," she warmed and without much trouble began to weld the hammer onto the end of it.

So far she was just making stuff up, not knowing if it would actually work, or just break on the first attempt. The weld was strong at least. Pulling the mask off again, she tapped the hammer on the bench several times to test it. The four inch spike might do well to penetrate the human cranium.

"Right, I guess the library is our first stop."

Slipping her wrench into one of the overall pockets, she held her new hammer pole arm with two hands.

Lily

Sighing she switched off the computer, sitting back she looked around the library, there must be something they could do.
She looked over to Kevin but he seemed to be thinking the same thing. Looking at her cell once more she noticed the battery was slowly draining, switching it off, she placed it back into her pocket, better save it for later she thought.

Getting up she wandered to the window, it looked over the school court yard, it was normal for her to just stand there and watch the other students, but now it was like a battlefield. There were blood smears everywhere, bodies being dragged off to be ... Lily stopped herself she wouldn't think about it.

It wasn't till she was looking out to the cars in the parking lot that Lily stumbled across an idea, that was their way out! turning to kevin she couldn't help but smile.
"Can you drive? i think we have found one way out."

Crazy Kev

He turned his attention to Lily,

"Yes in fact I can, ran a few races down at..."

He coughed and nodded,

"Yes I can drive."

He moved over to the window and looked out,

"I do hope you know for your plan to work we need to get to the Security Room and after we have found the security code we can unlock the doors...or we can wait until the doors and gates open on their own."

Lily

Lily frowned when Kevin explained that they would need to code and get to the security room, "Surely one of the students should know?" she muttered to herself.
It was so near yet so far. she gazed out the window once more, quickly shutting her eyes as she saw a body being dragged behind a dumpster.
Turning she placed her back against the window, running a fustrated hand through her hair, "the other's say they are coming but what do we do after that?"
She closed her eyes as she let her head fall back leaning against the window.
they couldn't just stay in here till help came could they? from the looks of the front of the school it would be a miracle.

Crazy Kev

"Sure if we had a hacker which could break into the database and get us the code."

He ran his fingers through his hair,

"I take that this infection has spread beyond the school, so by the time the gates open these will either leave, or more will come in."

He glanced at the door,

"If we are more, we can hold off a few of them and try to cut through the gate, I know that there is a portable cutting set in the mechanic class or whatever you call it. I would say that it is our best shot."

Lily

Lily nodded as she listen to Kevin, it was their best bet, but not the safest.

Looking around the library she had another idea. "You know we are in a library, maybe there is a book somewhere? I know its a long shot but saves us from sitting around waiting..."

Walking between the aisles lily thought back on the situation, for one thing she was actually socialising with another human! she couldn't help but smile to herself but then again they were being surrounded by flesh eating things!

Running her hands over the books she looked, how to build yourself a ship (that wouldn't do much in the situation) .... looking some more she frowned there was nothing they could possibly use. "Anything?" she asked wondering if Kevin was also looking.

Continuing to look down another aisle she began talking to herself which was a habit, "Wasn't there a group who broke in the security camera's and spied on the teachers, and it kinda hit the fan when they found out about the affair between that guy and the student?"

she couldn't remember the details fully but she remembered hearing something along those lines..... Turning a corner she was about to ask Kevin his opinion when she stopped...

Where is Mrs Cooper ? The librarian? she thought staring at the empty counter.

crazy Kev

He laughed suddenly as she spoke about the student teacher affair, it was big news back then.

"I remember it, if we could find any of those guys alive we can go for your plan."

He looked through the books,

"Did you find that you can get 80% of these books online as e-books?"

He kept scanning,

"I found a few interesting facts on the living dead, you get two kinds. The ones that loses their souls yet find their undead lives driven by human sustenance, it is based on a real illness..."

He peeked down the aisle at her,

"Tell me if I'm telling you what you already know and boring you..."

Her question stopped his words,

"If she was here, she'd be normal, if not she might end up as one of those things."
