I would like to start a light hearted thread in which I play a young heiress who is totally irresponsible and only concerned with how to spend money.

Her father, a self made millionaire, is fed up with his daughter's antics and fearful that she will never learn responsibility and he will have to turn over his business to someone not in his direct bloodline for she is his only child.

So, he strikes a bargain with her. She spends a year in a menial job. Actually doing that job and leaving her status as an heiress along with her multiple credit cards behind. She proves to him that she can do that job well and succeed on her own and he wont cut her off without a dime in a years time.

He knows the perfect job also. He has a young employee who just moved into town who is a single parent with two children. He doesnt have a nanny/cook/housekeeper and needs one that is not really expensive. He will arrange for her to take the job and then she is on her own. The stipulation being that the young man is not to know for that year that she is the bosses daughter or all bets are off. She can pull it off because she is never seen around *ugghhh* work.

Meanwhile, daddy dear has talked to the young man and told him that he knows a young lady that is down on her luck and needs a job. He will pay for him to hire her if the young man will give her a room and work. The boss will pay for the girl to work for the single father for a year. The only stipulation is that she must not know that his boss is paying her wages. She is too proud, he tells his employee.

The young man jumps at the offer because he needs someone and with the purchase of his house and two mouths to feed he cant afford not to.

So sets the stage. If I can get anyone to volunteer for the part of the single father, I will play the young heiress. Anyone with suggestions for any other parts are welcome also.

Which father Anakin? Better stake your claim :D

Can I step forward for any part available, or do I have to leave it for indy? :D

*laughs*

Go away for a little bit and get out of the loop, darlin!

You are more than welcome and indy and I are not an item anymore.

Thanks, hon...

But some things are just not ment to be.

okay...lets do some stats and names and I will get this on the road.

Oh, and AFM..you can come in as any char you like. You can even make up a best friend for the single father or something. And we can see if we can get another girl in here to play my chars friend.

Give some suggestions...I would love to hear what you think your char should be.

It had been a few tough years since Jake lost his wife. The Cancer struck quickly and left him, then 21, with two young kids, Lynden (now 5) and Connor (now 4). Connor had just survived childbirth and both young boys were growing up strong and healthy.
Dad wasn't. The young couple had ostracized their parents with the marriage, and her family especially (deeply religious) had totally shunned them. No help came from his blue-collar family, either. Jake struggled to balance his career with the full-time responsibilities of two children.
So, naturally, when the letter from the company president came, he was ready to jump at the chance. But, he was wary. Why would someone help a struggling single dad, especially one who worked so low down in his company?
After a bit of soul searching, he agreed. It would allow him to take a second job as well, maybe as a bartender at the local pub. Geez, he hadn't been out with the boys in a very long time. It was slightly easier to go out for lunch, since the boys were getting older, but to the bar for some drinks? Not even.
Jake looked in the mirror. His brown hair was a little ragged, since he hadn't had it cut in a while, but his eyes had lost that perma-dark circle look associated with infant children and no sleep. His 6' frame was broad across the shoulders and he still weighed pretty much the same as he did as a high school linebacker. No paunch had developed, at least. He probably couldn't bench 375 anymore, but he could change a diaper in seconds!
He was a cute guy, but he hadn't thought about much since Sally had died. There were nights he missed her terribly, and nights he felt like he could hardly remember her face. Someday, he'd get out and meet someone...maybe.

I can play a second female. Just let me know what Ask For More is going to be and I will come up with something.

Salena

The echo of the door slamming behind me echoed through my room and down the hallway and steps I had just stomped up and through to get to my private space.

I could not believe what my own father wanted to do to me. I was in shock. I was in denial. I was in last season's style thats how bad I was. I had taken the news so hard that I simply had not been thinking when I had dressed this morning.

I had known about father's plan for two days now. Two whole days of begging and whining and pleading with him to reconsider this crazy plan. This truly foul deed to his one and only child. But noooo...he was determined that I learn responsibility. Said I didnt have the guts to make it on my own. That I was too pampered and needed a dose of real life experience to set me on a path that would make me worthy of inheriting his fortune.

Oh, I had refused. Told him that there was no way I was doing menial tasks. I wasnt going to look for a job and he couldnt make me. He told me it was okay and that he had found the perfect job for me.

One of his new employees needed a housekeeper/cook/nanny for him and his two children. It included board so I would have a place to stay that was befitting my title and new station in life and that if I didnt agree to do it he would cut me off in a years time with no money, credit cards or expense account at all.

Throwing myself on the bed, I ran one hand through my blonde/brown hair and stared unseeing at my ceiling with my baby blue eyes which had not made dent one in daddy's armor. Who would have thought daddy had it in him? I always thought mother had him trained better than that but not even she could persuade him of the folly of his plans. In fact he threatened to cut her off as well if she didnt shut up. You would have thought she had been placed in a soundproof bubble the way all sounds ceased.

So much for my support in troubled times.

With that thought, I heard the door to my room open and in walked Else, my personal maid. She was carrying bags with her and I figured she was ready to pack my stuff for when my father got word from this employee of his that I was hired. I was figuring the man would be smart enough to refuse and I would be in the clear again.

My hopes went down the drain with Else's words. "Your father says that everything is ready and to get dressed for your job, Miss," Else said with a look of dread on her face. All of the servants had seen what happens when my temper gets out of hand.

"You mean this guy is going to actually let a stranger take care of his house and...kids...?," I said, not being able to keep the whining tone from my voice. "Oh God! Will this horror never end?!" The answer to my question came in the form of the skirt and blouse that Else handed me to wear. One look and I was halfway up the bed trying to get away from it.

"WHAT is THAT?," I said, the disgust evedent in my tone. "It is your suit that your father wishes you to wear. He said you must be presentable for the job. And you must wear low heel black shoes as they are more comfortable and you will be able to work in them. He also suggested you wear your hair up so that you look more like you are applying for a job as a nanny and less like you are applying for a job as a...hooker." She said the last word hesitantly and I knew daddy had told her to tell me that word for word.

I groaned and placed my head in my hands. Then I brightened a bit. I had to wear that ugly thing to the house but once there I could change into the clothes I wanted. My eyes lighted on my closet and I begin to plan what to bring.

"And your father said not to worry about packing as he has already filled your suitcases with clothes appropriate for your new position," She continued as she caught the direction of my gaze.

"What do you mean 'appropriate'," I said with apprehension and fear.

"Nothing fancy," She replied,"Just more like this," She moved her hand to indicate the grey skirt, jacket and simple blouse and some comfortable sweat pants, sneakers, jeans and t shirts."

I cringed. My world had just fallen apart completely. I thought I had it bad when daddy had made me give him all of my credit cards and cut them up in front of me and then made me stand there while he called all the stores and cancelled my accounts there. But now I would be forced into a year of wearing what could not possibly pass for anything but a waste of cloth.

"Your father also bought you a car and said you are scheduled to arrive today. He expects you at the man's house in less than an hour," Else concluded as she left, setting a piece of paper on the vanity before scooting out my door.

Moving slowly to the vanity, I looked on the paper. It had three names and an address. Jake Reilly and children Lynden and Conner. Daddy was really going to make me do this. And now I had to be there in less than an hour? I dont put makeup on that fast much less appear anywhere. And hasnt he ever heard of being fashionably late?

Not having any choice in the matter, I was downstairs in the prescribed time and looking for the car my father had bought. Somehow I had an idea it wasnt jaguar or even a BMW. I was right. Charles, our chauffer showed me to a beat up VW Bug and helped me put my bags, which were suplimented by my makeup bags which I was not going to leave behind, into the junk heap I would be driving for a year.

Taking one last look around, I climbed behind the wheel and forced down any revulsion I felt. Somewhere a determination was growing in me to prove my father wrong. Somehow I was going to show him that his little girl could make it and that I didnt need his help or his money. Well, maybe I wouldnt go that far but I did have one thing going for me. I had yet to meet a man who wouldnt fall to my charms. And I was going to a house with three of them. I was going to beat daddy at his own game.

I still had that thought in my head when I stepped up the the porch of the dinky dwelling and rang the doorbell. Fixing my blouse so that it showed a bit of cleavage, I put on my most knock out smile and waited for the door to open.

Grant Daniel

OOC: After careful consideration I've decided to be a good friend to senor Anakin. Hope ya don't mind :D

So that's my name up there, around 5'11", slightly tanned skin and more on the stocky side of things. Next door neighbour and good friend to Jake, helping him with the kids on more than one occasion. And single!

IC: I got back home at around 6 today. It was quiet at work, and I was pretty relaxed, so I decided to check on my next door neighbour, Jake. The poor guy had lost his wife not long ago to cancer, and was pretty hard up at the moment, so when I was free I'd pop over to his to see if he needed any company or help. Jake was a decent guy, but his confidence and self esteem had virtually disappeared after Sally died. I had managed to coax him out a couple of times, but usually we just ended up watching sports and drinking beer.

Getting changed, I decided that maybe I should try and get him outdoors. I had a hoop in my driveway, so I picked up my basketball and went over to Jake's house.

Jake Reilly

The doorbell rang. I looked at the clock, impressive timing for the nanny, right on the dot.
I was wearing gym shorts and a Michigan t-shirt, since that's where I went to college. A backwards hat completed the look. I hoped Grant was coming by later for some one-on-one.
Lynden beat me to the door by a half-step. He opened it a crack and said, "Who goes there? I am the biggest billy goat gruff!"
I laughed and scooped him up. "Now, Lynden, we don't answer the door that way, we do it like this, politely."
I turned to greet the nanny and my voice caught in my throat for an instant. She was beautiful! Ice blue eyes, soft skin, blonde/brown hair and what seemed to be a nice body. My hesitation lasted for an instant.
"Hello, may I help you?" I smiled and turned to Lynden again. "See, that's how we greet guests to our door. Can you say guests?"
"Gess," was his reply. "Auntie Jess?"
"No, it's not your Auntie Jess, Lynden, Hi, I'm Jake Reilly, you must be the nanny..." I held out my hand.

I had just caught movement out of my eye. It seemed that the neighbor was headed my way when the door opened.

"Who goes there? I am the biggest billy goat gruff!" Came the unmistakable voice of a child. I was taken aback as I fully expected to encounter the father first. When he did come to the door, I was totally thrown off and unprepared. Strike one for my charm plan.

When I saw my 'employer' he had a small boy in his arms and was talking to him. It gave me a minute to assess him and the situation. My eyebrows raised as I looked him over. I still had no plans of liking what daddy had thrown me into but charming this guy might not be such a bad chore. He was good looking and actually seemed to have a personality. Nice laugh too.

"Get a grip here, girl," I said to myself,"Who is supposed to be charming who here?"

The munchkins, however, were a different story. I had no experience with children and desired none at all. My plans centered on living the good life until I found marriage more convient and then making a good match with a suitable man in my station of life and handing over the one or two children that might happen to a nanny to take care of.

Then the realization hit me. I was the nanny in this situation. I would have to take care of the minature hoodlums for a full year. Gawd, was my expense account worth this? Well, yes, but it was still cruelty beyond what one should endure.

At that point I heard the child's comment about me being his aunt. Oh God! I knew this prison suit was a bad idea on daddy's part.

Reaching out with a limp hand to take his, my eyes were pulled down to the child. "I thought there were two," I said, my other hand pointing to the wiggling tot in his arms. I must say, I tried not to let the horror of my situation creep into my voice. Daddy should at least be proud of me on that.

Jake

He smiled, she seemed a little taken aback by being greeted by Lynden, and he decided to roll with it.
"Yes, the other child is over in the middle of the floor, drooling. We feed him with a slingshot when he gets like that," he said. "We tend to call him Connor, but he answers to mosy anything, as long as you call in his direction."
Lynden replied, "Daddy! Connor's napping! What's a swingshot?"
"Daddy's just being silly, Lynden, because the nice lady was surprised that you answered the door."
"Ohhhh."
He turned back to the nanny. "Come in, come in, I didn't catch your name though. This is Lynden, he's five..."
"Five anna half," Lynden corrected.
"...and Connor's napping, he just turned four."

Selena

I walked into the house and looked around. Small and sparse. Just as I had feared. Oh well, I was my father's daughter and I would survive. Well, I was pretty sure I could stand the step down in the world for one year.

Looking at the child in his arms and then the one on the floor, I decided that maybe watching the two wouldnt be that bad. I mean they seemed pretty quiet and harmless.

Dropping my keys into his hand, I said,"Selena. My bags are in my car. I dont suppose you have a suite in this place for my stay?"

Then looking down at the child on the floor, I wondered,"And what is a slingshot and how do you feed him with it?"

He laughed. "That was a joke, right? I get it. Making out like an heiress to some kind of forture. That's quite funny, Selena."
He tossed the keys back to her. You can bring your bags in and put them in the room down at the end of the hall. I'll show you around once your luggage is stowed."
He chuckled as he walked away, Lynden watching her as he walked away hand-in-hand with his dad.

Selena

I looked at the keys dangling in my hand and shot him a sick smile. "Yeah, funny, hehe," I said with no humor in my voice. Of course he didnt hear me as he and the kid were headed away from me at the time.

I looked down at....Lynden, wasnt it?....who was looking back at me with a gaze that said he could see past who I was supposed to be. Walking out of the house, I sighed.

Okay, I had to pull this off. There was no way I was going to make it through life without the credit line that daddy's bank account afforded me. There was no way I wanted to make it without that. I was way too happy with the privaleges that came with my station. Better to be inconvienced now and regain that then be out of the loop totally in a year.

It took me several minutes to finally get the trunk of the stupid junk heap my father had saddled me with open and then it took three trips from the car to the house to get it all into the dinky room that was prepared for me.

At the end of the ordeal, I collapsed on the small bed and stared up at the ceiling. My clothes were messed up, my hair was sticking all over the place and I felt like I had walked ten miles on a stairmaster. And I didnt even have the pleasure of packages from several mall stores to soothe the aches and pains!

It was then that I heard Jake calling my name and telling me that we could discuss the boy's schedule, likes and dislikes as well as the rules of the house over dinner which they traditionally had in about three hours from now. His tone told me that he expected me to be the one to make the dinner.

"Dont tell me," I heard myself mutter under my breath,"Take out isnt on the menu."

Melody Sommers

OOC: Black hair, green eyes, 5' 8"

IC: I looked around the small apartment. It was perfect. I couldnt believe the luck I had to get this apartment rent and utility free as part of a "job" I had to do for my Aunt's employer.

When Aunt Elsie's employer, a big business man and very wealthy, had asked if she knew someone who could do a very special job for him, Melody's aunt had suggested her. Aunt Elsie knew that the young woman was looking for an inexpensive place close to the local college. Melody was going to school part time and had been looking for a part time job also when this literally fell into her lap.

When she had gotten the details she had been surprised. The deal was that Melody would take an apartment across the street from where this guy's daughter was working and keep an eye on her reporting back to her aunt who would then report to her employer. In addition to the rent and utilities being paid, Melody's college tuition was taken care of as well as some spending money. She gathered that this girl she was supposed to watch had never been out in the real world before and daddy wanted to keep tabs on her without it being obvious.

Right then Melody heard a car trunk slam and raced to the window to see the woman she was supposed to be watching going into the house with her arms loaded down with suitcases. Melody's orders were to watch but not interfer. Still, it would help her keep an eye on this girl if she could meet her and kind of make friends with her.

Racing out of the apartment, she headed towards the house across the street not looking where she was going. She wasnt aware that there was anyone in the way until she had fallen on her backside with an "oomph" and was looking up into the deepest eyes she had ever seen before. For just a moment she didnt know what to say or do.

"Are you alright, Miss?," The stranger said as he looked down at her. Blushing, Melody scrambled to her feet and brushed off her shorts and T Shirt while he picked up the basketball that she had caused him to drop.

"Um. Yeah. Sorry. I...I'm new here and I was just...going to introduce myself to the neighbors," She said pointing to the house where Selena had gone in. She then realized what house he must have come out of and gave a nervous laugh.

"And you are one of my neighbors," She said sticking her hand out for a handshake. "Melody. Melody Sommers. I just moved into the apartment building across the street and I thought I saw a woman going into the house there and I thought I might introduce myself. Make some friends."

I must have sounded like an idiot. "Look. I am just going to go now, okay?," I said as I backed up the sidewalk and right into the mailbox. The pain in my back now took my mind away from my embarrassment somewhat and got me moving. I turned around and practically ran up the walk to the door of the house that Selena had entered moments ago.

Jake

"Selena, Selena?" Jake had been calling for about a half hour, and knocked on the door. He figured she might have fallen asleep. He knocked again. "Selena, are you in there? It's time for you to get dinner ready."
He wondered again why he had agreed to this.

Grant Daniel

I chuckled as the young lady stammered at me nervously. Then a clang as she walked right into the mailbox. "Ouch!" I said, as she legged it up the sidewalk as well as an person in pain could.
"Hey!" I called up to her. She turned around, face flushed and starting to sweat.
"I haven't even told you my name yet...." I strolled up the sidewalk. "Grant Daniel, nice to meet ya." I tipped my cap at her. She just smiled anxiously.

"Now you tell me you saw a woman go in there?" I asked. She nodded. Obviously speechless as well.
"That's odd. Jake didn't tell me about any women moving in. Let's check it out eh?" I grinned at her, and finally she seemed to relax a little. I opened the front door, knocking at the same time, "Jake? You in there?"

Jake

He heard the knock, and still nothing from within her room. What to do?

Selena

I groaned and rolled off the bed. I had been hoping that he would simply take the hint and order out but that was not to be.

Standing, I took off my jacket and straighten my blouse and skirt before opening the door. I was again startled by how good looking this guy was and had to pull myself back from my thoughts as I slid past him and out the door.

Okay, dinner ment the kitchen. I had watched cook fix dinner a few times before. Mainly when daddy and mums were away and I was bored because the servants were busy working and had no time for me.

Moving into the kitchen, I pause. Unfortunately, my experience hadnt gone any farther than watching and now I was stuck on what to do.

My eyes fell on the refridgerator. I had seen cook pull food from there to make dinner. Okay, we were doing good now.

It only took a couple steps before I was standing before the fridge and I grabbed the handle in both hands and yanked it open. I didnt realize how easily the stupid thing was to open and the suddeness of the swinging door made me stumble into counter. I heard a giggle and looked down to see that Lynden had followed me in and was watching with great interest my first venture into the unknowns of being a cook.

Ignoring him for now, I bent down and looked into the cool depths of the appliance and saw many food items. None of them pre-prepared. I sighed. I knew it wasnt going to be easy. Then my eyes fell on a familiar sight. It was a package of hot dogs. My regular diet tended to consist of a much better fare but I did remember when I was a little girl and had my friends over for cookouts that hotdogs had been one of the things our cook had made on the grill.

Reaching in, I picked up the package and looked around the kitchen. No grill which was good because I wouldnt have idea one about how to start it up. Ahhh! A microwave! Cook had shown me how to make popcorn in those little bags one day when I was wanting a snack for a movie I was watching. I could do this!

Taking the package in my hand, I opened the door of the microwave and tossed it in, then closed the door. Looking at all the buttons, I tried to remember just how Cook had said to do this.

"Now, how long to set it," I said to myself,"Oh, twenty minutes should be fine." Managing to make the microwave begin to hum as it started working gave me a surge of pride and I started to rummage through the cabinets. Running across another familiar snack item, potatoe chips, I pulled them from the shelf to.

"Well, I know we need plates," I said, looking through yet another set of cabinets. Finding a set of plain looking plates, I took them down from the shelf.

"I suppose fine china is out of the question," I said to the little boy standing in the doorway and watching me intently. He just giggled. "I thought so," I said and went back to finding glasses.

It was then that I heard a loud bursting noise come frome the microwave followed by several more popping noises. I let out a short shreik and stumbled back looking at the offending machine, not daring to touch it until the popping noise had stopped.

At my shriek, Jake came running into the kitchen and looked at me and then at Lynden. Seeming to relax knowing the boy was alright, he went over to where the microwave was still running and jerked open the door. The sight was indescribable.

The bag that had held the hotdogs had burst and splattered juice all over the inside of the appliance and the hotdogs themselves were split open and had broken into pieces and were now shriveling up and pretty much dying. The inside of the microwave was a mess and, unless you wanted to eat hard leather meat, dinner was pretty much ruined.

A laugh came from Lynden's direction and I heard him say,"You bew them up!" before bursting into another round of giggles.

The child did have a talent for stating the obvious.

OOC: Sorry guys, cookies bit me again. I cant get back in to fix anything that doesnt fit and I was writing it before I knew everyone posted so just ignore what doesnt fit.

After she breezed past him in the hall - what was that delightful perfume? - he looked back and noticed Lynden look at him, then follow Selena into the kitchen. Smart boy.
Then came the knocking again, he hustled to the door to see Grant standing there with yet another gorgeous young woman.
"Yes, Grant, I am here. What's up? I'm just in the middle of getting the new nanny settled and dinner started..."
No sooner had he finished then there was a loud BANG, followed by a shriek. He ran into the kitchen to find his son laughing and the nanny staring at the microwave like it was an evil creature. Looking in the appliance, he figured that she had put a whole package of hot dogs in the microwave and turned it on. The timer showed 17 1/2 minutes left.
"Well, I guess we're not having hot dogs," Jake said, looking quizzically at Selena.

Grant had a nice smile and Melody found herself relaxing a little bit. She dont know what she was letting herself get all worked up about. It was a simple job. Keep an eye on the millionaire's kid and make sure she stuck with the deal her father had made.

When the door opened, another nice looking guy greeted them. If all her neighbors were like this than she wouldnt mind sticking around even after her job was done. She was sure she could find a way to afford the apartment when this was through.

She was about to say something when she heard a loud noise and a woman hollering and the thought that this might not be as easy a job as she had first thought entered her mind. Racing into the home without even asking, she found Selena standing there with the guy who opened the door and they were both looking at a horrible mess in the microwave. Her suspicions about the job being harder was just confirmed.

Her first instinct was to dive in and help but her instructions were to not interfere. But looking from one face to the next Melody realized that if she didnt do something to help these guys were going to starve to death and she was going to lose a very cushy job.

"Okay, okay, what's everyone gawking at," She said as she pushed my way into the kitchen. "Mishaps with microwaves happen every day. Come on. Out and let the lady work. I wouldnt be able to work around a bunch of guys myself. There's a perfectly good basketball waiting to be thrown through a hoop. So go play while I help her clean up or else you are likely to not get any dinner."

Not giving them any choice in the matter, she ushered the two men out of the kitchen and turned to Selena. She had to pretend not to know who she was so she was going to have to watch what she said.

"I gather this is your first job?," Melody said trying to make it seem like she didnt know her situation already. "Lets get dinner going and you can tell me all about yourself while it is cooking. My name is Melody by the way. I am your new neighbor from across the street."

After cleaning up the microwave, it was easy enough to find spagetti noodles and canned sauce. Putting water on to boil and cooking up some sausage she found and adding it to the sauce to spice it up was simple. Next she fixed some french bread and put it in the oven to let the garlic and butter melt into it while the noodles and sauce simmered.

Pulling veggies from the fridge, she begin to instruct Selena on how to make a simply salad. The woman was not happy about it but did as instructed. When she was done, it was not the most picture perfect salad but it looked edible.

"You know," Melody said looking at the finished product,"I go to school but I could come over and give you cooking lessons if you want to. I mean, not to sound mean or anything but my guess is you have never been in a kitchen in your life. And if you want to keep the job you need to know how to cook."
