My wife and I went for a bit longer ride today. We had an absolute blast as we rolled more than 80 miles. We had prepped for this and looked forward to it.

Yesterday I picked up a couple of racks of Beef Short Ribs and brought them home. In the Stock Pot I added a couple of minced Onions as well as an entire head of minced Garlic. Along with this I tossed in a handfull of crushed Chipotle Peppers as well as a handfull of crushed Bird Peppers. Once this came to a boil I added the ribs and let them boil for 20 minutes. Once they were done boiling I let them cool before putting them in the fridge.

This morning I prepped the smoker. I filled the wood box with almost half a bag of chips and filled the water resevoir. When that was done I fired it up and added the ribs.

Then it was time to ride. We grabbed our gear and headed north. Our goal was the long stretch of A1A between Stuart and Ft. Pierce. The weather couldn't have been better as we headed out. Calm, sunny and the temperature was right around 80 degrees. We quickly settled into the ride and before we knew it we had reached Stuart. I found the turn off and we were now on A1A or as the locals call it the "Shore Road". Absolutely beautiful. In many places we had the ocean to our right and could clearly see the beaches sparsely populated with people. Traffic along here was light and moved along nicely. By the time we reached the end of this stretch my belly was rumbling and I needed a stretch. Up ahead I spotted a little place with a sign out front so we pulled in.

Now this was the kind of place I like. A little diner, what my father calls a Greasy Spoon. It's been there forever and looks it. We park the bike out front and walk in with our helets in hand. We were greeted by an older womanwho pointed to an empty booth as she grabbed a few things from behind the counter. She didn't ask as she poured two cups of coffee and dropped the menus on the table in front of us. Then she got me smiling when she said the special of the day was a Bambi Burger. (That got my attention.) It turned out these actually were Venison Burgers and came any way you wanted them. At $5.00 each I couldn't turn it down. I had mine with Swiss, Onions, BBQ Sauce and Jalapeno's. (My wife had hers the same but without the peppers.) Talk about some good food cheap.

By the time we had finished eating we had been joined by roughly 30 more Bikers out for the day. Some of these rode solo, others rode in groups. Some rode one up and others rode two up. In the parking lot were 20+ bikes of all makes and models. It was a blast as we met several people who wanted to know about our bike. (Hey it's old.)

When we left the diner and walked out to the bike the wind was kicking up a bit. I didn't think much about this until I reached Rt.1 south of Stuart. Here the road runs through what can only be described as desolation. There isn't a tree higher than ten feet. Just marsh and grass and beaches. The wind had nothing to cut it and we were running right into it. Believe me when I say I felt it when the wind gusted. (It was blowing at about ten MPH but was gusting closer to 30 MPH.) I was certainly glad I had the windshield.

Reaching home we were both smiling and refreshed from our ride. I could faintly smell the smoke from the smoker so I wandered over after parking the bike and added more woodchips. As soon as it was smoking again I headed in to get changed. Yes changed. I had been wearing jeans and a heavy denim jacket covered with a leather vest as we rode. The temperature was now up to 83 degrees and the jeans were getting a bit warm.

This evening I pulled the ribs out of the smoker as my wife steamed some Broccoli. I cut the ribs then mixed the BBQ Sauce. (Sweet Baby Rays Honey BBQ Sauce. I mix in 6 Table Spoons of Tobascoe per bottle to give it a hint of a bite.) Ribs with the sauce on the side and Veggies for dinner. Talk about Heaven.

Some of the people we met were more than interesting. The Waitress was the owners wife. She had a nasty sense of humor and had been working there for more than 20 years. "Honey the special of the day is a Bambi Burger. You can order it cooked any way you want but Sam will make it well done. You can have what you want on it, I'll even drag it through the garden if you can find me a garden. The soup of the day is the leftovers from yesterday."She had to sit she was laughing so hard when I ordered the Bambi Burger and told her to have Sam keep his two hairs out of it.

One of the bikers in there was an older guy. Longish gray hair and skinny as a rail. He pulled in on an older Sportster. We got to talking and he talked about how he loved the older Hondas. Then he told us he was planning a ride from Coast to Coast and back. This was as he put it his last hurrah. He was getting older and wouldn't be able to ride much longer. (He's 60.) We got to talking about this and I suggested maybe getting a side car or a Trike. He looked at me like I was nuts then he started smiling.

It was an absolute blast today and we plan on doing it again.
