Health Care

Except for the fact that the people arrested for assaulting Gladney were SEIU union thugs?
What is a "union thug"? Can one get that on a business card?

1. They were SEIU union members. Big fat surprise that they were present at a democrat's political meeting.

2. They did something bad by getting into a scuffle. Maybe even thuggish, the jury is still out on that. That was bad, and they should be arrested for it. And they were.

Those two things doesn't make them "union thugs". If they were also Red Sox fans, does that make them "baseball thugs"?

Strong in this one, the wharrgarbl is.

Only if they're Democrats. Republicans can obviously not be described as thugs, no matter how they behave.

The democrats are taking over and they'll turn us all into the ass that represents them. Socialism will make the world crumble like blue cheese. Republican will make the sky fall and we'll spin wildly out of orbit and crash into the sun!

This country has been changing since its inception. You have people that voice their opinion. You have people claiming shit that's not true. And you have people that sit back and play video games the whole while. Happy and out of touch. :D

Not that I think it will change anything, but you might want to look at video of the "attack" before you solidify your opinions. It looks like something from Cops, with a whole bunch of people shouting at each other.

To save on confusion, Gladney's the guy in the tan shirt who's being kept away from the guy already rolling around on the ground. He and a third guy go down at about the same time and pop up again promptly. He was clearly striding around and chatting with the camera man afterward. Looked awfully spry for someone who needed a wheelchair the next day. Does anyone else think that the pain in his knee was directly related to the publicity potential?

So who do organized Republican thugs work for?

You know, I don't know. I never see the job postings, damnit. :)

Yeah, I'd heard someone say that the attack was highly questionable... but I still find the whole thing amusing. And you know, think of this: let's say that this is all a shuck, that's he's just playing it up for some bucks. So, then you've got someone who's saying that we don't need health care insurance who's now SCAMMING OTHER REPUBLICANS FOR MONEY FOR HEALTHCARE!!!! The rich, meaty flavor of that would roll around the tongue like prime rib! :)

All kinds of crap is hidden in the bill, like a provision for social workers to appear at your home after your baby is born, to assess you and your home and help. Your state will identify newborns and preschoolers and use Healthcare money to hire social workers to visit you to provide guidance in baby's formative years.

Awww. Isnt that nice?

I think they see it as a cost saving measure - pay a social worker now, or pay for jail time later. Jail time is freakin' expensive, and it comes out of our taxes.

A congressman was on tv swearing ObamaCare wont pay a dime for illegals. So I got to thinking, WHO IN HELL WILL PAY FOR THEIR MEDICAL CARE?

1. We want all medical decisions to be made by doctors, not by government officials or by insurers.
2. We want freedom of choice.
3. We want a system that is affordable to us. I may not like my insurance premium or my co-pays but I can live with them.

Finally, we want to be told the truth. And we know that both sides of the debate are presenting distortions. So let me spend just a couple of minutes laying out what I think the truth might be. I would be interested in anyone’s feedback.

1. Already heath care reform is being transformed into health insurance reform. If you don’t believe me, check out the new White House web site called Reality Check. The banner labels it Health Insurance Reform. After all, precious little in any of the bills actually deals with transforming the way health care itself is delivered.
2. While Obama wants a plan that doesn’t increase the overall deficit, so far every plan presented fails in that regard. That means that taxes somewhere have to go up. Various bills suggest various solutions but it is quite clear that some Americans will have to share the burden of increased coverage for some of those currently uninsured.
3. While it would be nice to believe that all the future cost cuts will come from current waste or fraud, that isn’t going to happen. There will be continued waste and fraud at some level and clearly some cuts will have to come from a reduction in services paid for by the government or insurance carriers. Rationing is an evil word in this debate but a reduction in services is just that.
4. You may be able to keep you own doctor and you may be able to keep your own insurance company but you almost certainly will not be able to keep your existing insurance plan under any of the health insurance reform alternatives. That is because the new laws are going to contain a cadre of rules governing coverage. All plans will have to conform to those rules. Confirmation will increase some costs. Plans will compensate via either higher prices or lower benefits elsewhere in the plan. That’s the simple math. Will the new be better or worse than the old? I don’t know. But it will be different and we all fear change, especially if we are generally satisfied with what we have.
5. Will the elderly get less care? I don’t know. But once again, to presume that all cuts in Medicare are waste and duplication is presumptuous. I should make the point that we have rationing today. No one is going to give a 95 year old with a weak heart a transplant. The question is whether the escalating costs of health care require more rationing. The reality is that the answer is probably yes. No one wants to hear that but we all know how much is already spent on end-of-life care and it has to be controlled in some manner. But getting back to an earlier point, as much as possible we want that decision made by doctors and patients, not by bureaucrats and insurance companies.

Thus, for the umpteenth time since World War II, America is grappling with a problem for which there is no palatable solution.

The answer to the question: Which country has the best health care - the US or UK?

Seems to be France. France has universal insurance that takes account of ability to pay, universal access and better outcomes than the UK - at a much lower cost than the UK and far lower than the US.

Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- If there is any doubt that President Barack Obama’s plan to overhaul U.S. health care is the hottest topic in Congress, just ask the 3,300 lobbyists who have lined up to work on the issue.

That’s six lobbyists for each of the 535 members of the House and Senate, according to Senate records, and three times the number of people registered to lobby on defense. More than 1,500 organizations have health-care lobbyists, and about three more are signing up each day. Every one of the 10 biggest lobbying firms by revenue is involved in an effort that could affect 17 percent of the U.S. economy...

The only thing the U.S. produces is: noise, pizzas, ambulance chasers, swindlers and influence peddlars. No wonder the USD continues to lose value.

Involuntary vomiting Mr Trysail? Here's your referral to a specialist, only $1000, and while we're about it you had better have a course on the psychiatrists couch. You can talk to him about irrational responses.

Of course I don't know what the trick cyclist will charge or where it will end but my wallet will feel so much better.:D
