I've had a headache for going on 24 hours now. It has made my tummy roll with agony at times when the waves of pain got to be to much. I haven't had one like this is a while. I should count my blessings.

I'm up now cause I can't lay there any longer...the pain is now only on the left side and is a dull ache. I got really upset and mad yesterday and instead of just letting it go, I chose to try and hold it in. The pain my brain is feeling at the moment is my own doing I think. I need to learn that my body cannot and will not handle any more stress and I need to let the petty things of life go.

Headaches that last 24 hours are not a good thing. At least that what my doc told me. Ya might want to check with someone about it.

PB, you need a hot shower and a good massage, concentrating on reducing the stress in your shoulders and neck. Temples should also be tended to. Relaxation and rest, that's the key!

I really think I'm ok. Thank you for your concern SchoolTeacher. I'm not experiencing any dizziness or anything else unusual that would merit a trip to the Dr.'s office. I know my body. I really do think in my case it was/is just stress. I'm wound a little too tight, as some of you know. I need to work on that.

PacificBlue,

When I get a terrible headache, migraines are my head's choice of pain. I have been to the doctor and he has given me medicine for the pain, but I don't like to use it because it numbs my whole body and I don't like that feeling. Migraines are caused by changes in your daily living such as too little sleep, or maybe you're going to bed at different times, changes in eating habits and drinking habits, things of that nature. (Stress and Holidays)

You could also be suffering from a sinus headache - those are real killers. Tylenol Sinus works for me.

Some advice he gave me was that I could take 3 to 4 Advil tablets depending on the severity of the pain. This dosage is not recommended unless it's pain that is beyond handling. He also suggested filling the bathtub with the hottest water you can stand lying in, but do not burn yourself, and have an ice pack on your head while lying in the very warm water.

This has worked miracles on me, PacificBlue. It's got something to do with the constriction of the blood vessels and other things with the muscles. I don't completely understand it, but this does help me. Also changes in barometric pressure have a direct link to people suffering headaches.

Are you dehydrated

Often, I will get a headache because I haven't been drinking enough water.

I'd see my doctor, too about possible sinus problems. Sinus headaches are hell. Until, you alleviate the pressure, your head will throb.

Good luck.

Peace,

daughter

I have headaches a lot. I have a really bad neck and it sometimes restricts the blood flow to my brain. I get head aches, neck pain, tunnel vision, fainting, and occasional seisures (sp?) from it. I have been to several doctors and a chiropractor. All the doctors ever did was prescribe me migrain medication, which works all though I do not suffere from true migrains. The chiropractor helped a lot, but I could not afford to keep seeing him 3 times a week. I just live with pain now, and as strange as it sounds...for the most part I'm used to it. I do however occasionally get really bad headaches that I cannot handle. I still do one of the things my chiropractor suggested for me. Lay flat on your back on a firm, flat surrface with a towel rolled up under your neck.

Oh and I realize this was not posted as advice to me Enchanted, but thank you anyways. I will be sure to try this :)

Advice is meant to be shared, lillend. When one of us can try to help another - that's what it's all about.

I have been helped by many posts on this board even though I might not have shared in the giving aspect of that particular post.

Hopefully, we'll all learn something from one another.

Make a wonderful evening for yourself.

headaches

PB,

Sounds like it was a nasty tension headache...borderlning on migrane. There are several over the counter meds that may be of use in case it were to resurface.

Excedrin(aspirin caffiene and tylenol)
Motrin, Advil, Nuprin(ibuprofen)
Tylenol(acetominofen)

These are commonly used pain medications, but watch the label many tout there abilities to control pain but are the same thing as another drug.

There are a few that are available that I reccomend
Percogesic (Tylenol and Phentoxolamine) it is an over the counter muscle relaxant. It may make you drowsy, so no driving or playing with power tools

Valerian Root. This is an herb. It has natural muscle relaxant effects on the body, again it can make you drowsy.

Feverfew ( This little wonderbug is an herb also and is a remedy for minor to moderate migraines)

You can ask your doc about them or he/she may apt to give you a perscription medication to ward off any future occurences.;)

Could be a side effect of the BC pill

Check the literature that came with your prescription to see if headaches are a possible side effect or check with your doc. Hope you feel better soon. :)

I am notorious for headaches

I am notorious for getting 2-3 migraines every 3 months and at least double that n sinus headaches! Here are some tricks that may help you!

The main thing I try to do is to redirect my focus from the pain in my head to healing the pain. A really good way is to take a HOT shower, as hot as you can stand it. Stand with your face hitting the jet streams of water on your face. This gives your body a massaging facial and helps to relax you, also if you have a sinus headache this works great for releaving the pressure and pain. Also getting yourself into a room that is dark, quite and climate comfortable I would serioulsy try sleep! At times the pressure is so much in my head that I have to lay with many pillows propping my head up, this helps to aleviate pressure from sinuses.

Hope this helps somewhat

Pb do you have someone to massage your temples??

If so have them massage your forehead then add slow pressure as they massage intill it hurts or is numb then slowly undo the pressure it helps ..

I have other remideis as well if you need just pm me and I'll tell you some others :)

It sounds like sinus pressure to me. Sudafed or Actifed work best for me with that type of headache.

One way to check if it's a stress headache is to pinch the acupressure point in the web between the thumb and index finger of either hand. If the pain seems to drain away when you pinch that spot, it's stress. If it's sinus or migraine, then you won't notice any difference.

Moist heat works for most headaches -- a wet washcloth as hot as you can stand placed over your eyes will ease sinus or migraines and forsce you to remain quiet and still to ease stress and eyestrain.

A visit to the doctor to eliminate the possibility of sinus infection would be a good idea also.

Thank you for all the advice. I went to the Dr. for a similar headache a couple of months ago and they said bed rest and stress reduction.

I'm feeling better tonight. I ate dinner and it just feels like a dull ache. I'm sure I'll be as good as new tomorrow morning.

PB - I can sympathize completely. I get migraines about once every two months or so. I used to get them eery two weeks but, of late, that's gone down quite a bit. About all that'll work for me when I get them is to take two BC Headache Powders every four hours, and make sure I'm getting lots of water, to keep the ol' brain hydrated. :)

Other than that, I stay out of bright light and try to work through it.
