"The FBI received numerous warnings about Jan. 6 but felt many of the threatening statements were 'aspirational' and could not be pursued," the report found. "In one tip on Dec. 20, a caller told the bureau that Trump supporters were making plans online for violence against lawmakers in Washington, including a threat against Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah). The agency concluded the information did not merit further investigation and closed the case within 48 hours."

Donell Harvin, the head of intelligence at the homeland security office in Washington, D.C., did raise the alarm, according to the report. It explained how he "organized an unusual call for all of the nation's regional homeland security offices" — a call joined by hundreds of officials sharing their concerns. They were reportedly warning of an attack on Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol, just when the insurrection occurred. The planning was happening all over social media, after all — inspired by then-President Donald Trump's own tweets and rhetoric. Harvin reached out to the FBI and other agencies to warn them of what was coming, the report found.

He feared a "mass casualty event," according to the Post.

That would've improved the gene pool and whatever you might call its social equivalent, but we'd never hear the end of the "Capitol Massacre."

.
If people are being honest, who here believed something like 1/6 could happen without some special ops types repelling the terrorists with extreme prejudice.

Maybe next time.......

as I've explained before, the reason given for the lack of shooting boiled down to bombs: there was knowledge of discovered explosive device/s (which may have been a set-up to make sure guns weren't used in the situation) but with sketchy information they had no idea of the triggering mechanism of any potentially undiscovered bombs inside the buildings. If they existed–and that hadn't been ruled out as a complete possibility–they could potentially have been remotely triggered, with the outbreak of gunfire as the triggering factor.

in the chaotic, fluid situation, with insiders working against the incoming gov't and those in high positions collaborating with the current leadership of the day, it was impossible to check everywhere before things got so bad. IF the bombs had existed and security began shooting over the heads of or at the insurrectionists, there was no guarantee that wouldn't have been the moment when multiple explosive devices were detonated.

which is why i'm thinking the guy setting that bomb to be discovered might have all been part of the plan to neuter the strength of security's retaliation.

We're not talking about people capable of strategic thinking.

not talking about the hordes of tourists-cum-mouth-foamers...the real planning was done by far smarter minds eager enough to be well-clear of getting dirty hands but close enough to step in once the dust had settled

the concept of potential bombs was a direct consequence of the one laid, the 'bomb-making equipment' found nearby, and fueled by rumours and footage of the suspected bomb-deliverer. enough for it to be a possibility that could not be ignored...enough to direct reaction strategies
