So, without all the other stuff the idea is that people re-tell a story from the point of view of another character. It can simply be a re-telling or it might be a re-interpretation (*I* don't remember asking to be sold to the gypsies). Supporting characters can become the main characters of their own story which intersects with the original story.

So perhaps not a story idea but a storytelling idea. Ah well.
