I've been flipping through some of my old 'how-to' books on writing and I found what I thought was a wonderful creative exercise. The book suggested that I have a conversation with my character and record it; this would help me understand my character more it explained.

So, several times tonight I've tried to have a friendly chat with my main character but I've run into a problem: she doesn't like me. At first she was simply hostile and arrogant, she just 'mad dogged' me with that nasty curl of the lip I've spent paragraphs describing. Then she tried to attack me while I was getting a drink of water. There I was leaning over the water fountain when she leaps over the table and tries to slit my throat.

I've tried explaining to her that I'm an all powerful author and I even gave her a third eye to prove it to her. That backfired though, now she's convinced all my other characters that I'm a demon or something and none of them will interact with me. She's even rustled up a band of exorcists, ghost hunters and holy men to capture me.

I'm hurt. I work for hours on this character and she doesn't like me at all. I don't know what to do to remedy the situation, any suggestions?

Bring in a version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a girl on your side and have her stalk your ex-lead character who is now a Vampire. That'll take care of your credibility problems with your other characters and you'll get a tres cool new main character as well. Just make sure you're tight with the Neverversion of Buffy before you send her in. Otherwise, scrap her and try a newer improved version until you get one you mesh with. You may want to try bribing her with your body.

Good luck!

Hell, that's your story

I want to see how this story ends. Do they get you? Do you escape? If they kill you off how does that affect their existence? Ooh, can't wait.
