Having a problem with Lit... no support?

I've sent a few emails to Laurel, as suggested on the Literotica Control Panel when you log in, but I've never gotten a reply. Here's my problem:

I wrote a story a while back. Years ago. And recently I've been writing a sequel, and I wouldn't mind posting it again on Lit. But I'm not happy with the username I used. Being older and wiser now, I'm a little more conscious about internet safety and anonymity, and I'm simply not comfortable with my real first name being attached to my stories at this time.

So I emailed Laurel asking if there was a way to change my username, or if I could make a new account and have my first story moved to that account with all its stats intact.

But I've received no response. :(

I don't wanna post chapter 2 until I figure something out, so I'm kinda stalled at the moment. Is there anyone else I can talk to or email? Anything else I can do?

Email never gets a response. Try sending Laurel a private message.

(honestly....are you the only "Michael" in New Brunswick? Is it that small?)

No, I'm definitely not the only Michael around. But there's also the problem that it's an obviously male name, and in online dealings, sometimes one wants to be... ambiguous. Anonymous? Anyway... I just want to change the name to something that can't connect to me in any way.

Emails typically don't get through, because the email filter is extremely draconian. Sending a PM is the best hope to get through. ( Find her profile in the contest forum )

There is always the self-service way, which could prove to your advantage, and serve your goal of anonymity as well.

Delete the chapter in your current name.

Start a new pen name exclusively for posting stories. You could even use a free email service to create an email for the pen name. Once the delete goes through, post Ch. 01 and Ch. 02 both under your new pen name. Ch. 01 will get exposed to readers on the New list again, and Ch. 02 will follow quickly on its heels.

And now, a little copy pasta I keep around *laugh* It focuses mainly on editing, but the instructions for deleting are there as well, if you want to go this route.

Here's the editing method for Lit.

  • Take note of the Lit ID# of your story/chapter. That's the number appearing at the end of the URL in the address bar of your browser when you view the first page of your story.
  • Start a new submission.
  • Use the same title as the original ( or as much as will fit ) plus something such as *EDIT*
  • Fill in the same category, then fill description and keywords with placeholders, as they don't matter. ( Unless one of these things are what you're editing )
  • If editing the story text, paste/upload the new text in the "story text" section. If editing anything else, copy the "notes" section detailed below in order to fill this section.
  • In the "notes" section, say what you are editing. If story text, then put that. If title, then put the requested NEW title here. You can fill in edited descriptions/keywords/category above, but you'll still want to list any such changes here. It's a good idea to list the Lit ID# that I mentioned in step 1. This is unique to every story/chapter, and can help eliminate the potential for human error. As mentioned above, if you are editing something other than the story text, copy what you put in the notes section to the "story text" as well. This is simply because there must be something in that section for you to submit.
  • Click "Review", then "Submit"

Edits are subject to the same wait time as a new story. I have seen edits go up in bulk in far less time than a story usually requires to post, though.

If you edit the story in this manner ( as opposed to deleting and re-submitting ) you'll retain your votes, views, comments, etc. The only thing that will be changed is what you say that you want changed. It will not appear on the New List again.

If you wish to delete a story, use much the same method, except put something such as *DELETE* in the title, and say that you want to delete the story in question in the "notes" section.

Convoluted, but it does work. It gets a little easier as you get used to it.

One thing you can do, although it would lose the stats on Chapter 1, is to set up an account in your new name, post Chapter 1 under that name, delete Chapter 1 under Michael.333, and then post Chapter 2 as the new name.

I'm going to do that as a last resort. I'm hoping to hear back from Laurel first. I sent her a message.

Also: Thanks for the info, Darkniciad!

No problem. Sorry you had to tumble into the fetid swamp of the General Board before coming here for an answer *laugh*

I was just about to send you a PM with this information when I saw that you were bringing the Q here, so I waited for it to pop up instead.

Dark! Are you hanging out on the GB?

Purify thyself, man! :D

Good luck with getting things changed. Although Dark's method is good, it's a bit long and drawn out.

What you can do a bit quicker is just include - EDIT or - DELETE after the title of your story.

First you have to submit it as you normally would then include - EDIT or - DELETE after. If the title is particularly long (I've noticed there's a character/word limit in the Title Field), Dark's method may be best, but I've found even with longer titles this does work if you abbreviate the title, as long as you include a note to the moderators in the Notes field about the stories/chapters you want edited or deleted with the FULL title.

If you haven't already, here's a direct link to send a PM to Laurel about just getting your user name changed:

I know of one person who had her username changed here by requesting it from Laurel, so it has been done.

Hey! I hang out on the GB all the time. I'm counting bubble baths as my purification ritual.

Glynndah! Say it ain't so! You're too sweet. Must be the bubble baths. :D

Maybe I'm just jealous because I could never hold my own over there. ;)

I pick and choose my threads carefully. I'm a bit more experienced than you with their shenanigans, too.
