Either a person is right or wrong on most forum debates. Have you ever changed your opinion on any topic in this forum? If so what was your original opinion and your changed opinion?

I've occasionally read arguments here that shifted my opinions somewhat. Often we form our opinions before we have considered every angle and been given all the information. I can't remember specific moments, but small shifts aren't that uncommon.

I'll say that this only happens when people present reasonable and intelligent arguments, preferably backed up by the numbers. Sadly, these posts are grossly outnumbered by the overgrown toddlers yelling about what poopyheads each other are.

I used to favor gun bans. Now I do not.

After much debate I see that as not the right policy for the US.

Likewise. It's worked here, but it's a very different situation and a very different culture. I learned just how different from talking to people on lit. I'm still of the opinion that more control would be a good thing, but an outright ban would probably work as well as prohibition did.

I know I am not omniscient

I know I am not omniscient and therefore I proceed with the desire to learn and adjust my views as I collect more information. My views today are very different from what they were a few years ago and I hope that will be true a few years from now. If not it either means that I have become omniscient or I have stopped growing.

I do think that when people read viewpoints that they disagree with and their knee jerk reaction is to attack the intellect of the individual with a different view it indicates an egotistical self image as if they are somehow omniscient.

We all have a lot to learn and we should respect the fact that different viewpoints can be based on a different sets of experiences in life rather than assuming that all other views are just stupid. Of course some people really are stupid and being honest about that is sometimes called for.

yes. i used to think some of the posters on here are dicks. now, i think all of them are.

All that is needed here is actual enforcement of the 20,000 plus existing gun control laws.

You've heard my thoughts before. If we start debating them here, this rather interesting thread will descend rapidly into two sides, mostly (though not entirely) acting like toddlers and calling each other poopy heads, and the original topic will be lost.

I have changed my mind lots of times. Lit and the opinions expressed here have opened my eyes to a lot of different things. A person has to grow.

And yeah, new gun control laws are a joke when Canada wants to ban handguns and 350 perps are out on bail in Toronto for illegal handgun possession and won't see a minute of jail time.

forgot...poopyheads

It has certainly informed and shifted some of my opinions because, buried under the sand, there are some diamonds. I can't think of anything it has radically changed though, from a no to a yes. It has added some caveats to those answers.

Agreed.

I'd tend to be in this camp. My opinion on gun control probably hasn't really changed, but it's definitely better informed. And I've learnt a bit about a few other things ... mostly insight into how people think, the sorts of people I might not encounter in my everyday life.
I think the sex-related fora have probably changed the way I think about a few things, more so that the GB.

Nice to read some actual thought provoking posts here instead of the usual shit slinging.

My opinion on abortion has shifted over the years. I used to be against it unless the Mothers safety was at risk. That is no longer the case. I still hate that it is used as retro-active birth control by so many, but my stance has definitely shifted. The morning after pill for the first example. I really have no issue with that.

Yes. Quite a lot actually.

Information will always tend to alter our POV on almost any subject. Sometimes the information hardens our position, sometimes it shifts us to a place we weren't expecting to go or be.

Yes, twice.

When I first arrived here I believed that Anal Sex was a safe alternative to the risk of pregnancy for good God-Fearing girls but I learned on Lit about Ass Cancer, Appliance Absorption, Leakage, Odors, and the rest of the associated horrors and now understand that it is an abomination that should be performed only by gay men who are doomed to the eternal fires of hell anyway.

I also thought that Fata was a neat person but after reading many threads, decided that she was a cunt.

I don't know if anything has done a hard flip on my opinion. However, this place tends to make we want to dig deeper into subjects I otherwise wouldn't. In that, lies my opinion morph. I agree with dolf, it makes a informative debate become non interesting when posters are screaming and name calling for the lack of an intelligent response. With open mindedness, intelligence, and data, an opinion can be changed. Ive taken the opportunity to learn more by almost every poster, even hash tag. I enjoy thoughts from those that do not have my same background, beliefs, or live in the same country. Sometimes it gets so dramatic that it turns me off and tunes me out. That's been happening more and more these days.

The lump of coal (oh my the horrors) you were going to receive for Hanukkah will now be a box of. 22lr.

Cheers for your enlightenment.

People as a whole are more likely to change their views on sex as opposed to religion, abortion, politics, or guns. Just saying.

For him, that is a big move.

I am proud of him.

P'haps there is hope for America.

I for one am tired of the us against them. It is well past time to get shit done on all fronts in Washington.

Sinema, I love you! Stay the course.

I really don't pay much attention to the actual arguments so no, nobody here has changed my mind on anything. It's more fun to skim, throw down a gem or 3 and leave. Your opinions mean as much to me as mine do to you.
