Have the baby grillers surprised you?

Didn't Jonathan Swift write a recipe book as a sequel to "A Modest Proposal?"

None of the electric grillers get hot enough to put a char on the meat and leave the inside rare.

I want a hibachi.

I've never seen one in action, though. In principle, they should do the do just fine. But I need someone else to have one and use it, like, at a party or something before I think about getting one.

I remember weekends when all you'd see at the beaches, or at the ends of picnic tables in the parks were hibachis. You'd know lunch or dinner was close when the air started smelling of starter fluid, then burgers, hotdogs, and burning barbecue sauce.

The folding of lawnchairs, the clank of empty, brown, stubby bottles, and walking the hibachi to the big drum painted with 'HOT COALS ONLY', signaled evening, and time to drag your sunburnt arse to the car, for the long drive home.

Good times.

A favorite neighbor had one when I was growing up. She used it all the time. It's a mini barbecue in essence.

Last time I went looking for them - which was about this time last year - I couldn't find any.

Walmart and Amazon still sell the classic cast iron Hibatchi for about $21 or so..

Awww, I miss my cast iron hibachi. The shelf fitting got "lost." It had four levels. Toast, fish, veggies, burned tofu. I never tried the tiny cast iron frying pan.

It is probably still rusting, among the weeds.

I'll have to look again. When I went, I couldn't find them. When I asked, I got the answer of a point and "all of that stuff is over there".

Hibachi? Thought you were talking about Hitachi.

-leaves thread-

hitachi is a tenderizer. hibachi is the bomb. if you have limited space, cooking for a few, there is nothing better. i've always had one since college.

Yeah well that IS Walmart for ya. If they have it it's sold out, if they don't no one knows where they are.
