Have heard about these trolls form reading other threads....

Had a new submission approved today and on returning home to have a look I find it has received 4 views but 12 votes!!!! resulting in a very low score of 2.58.

Also had some not very constructive critasism left which I have now deleted!

Is it possible to vote for the same story more than once? I thought as it knows who you are it wouldn't let you?

I thought the story was OK, perhaps not the best I have written, but didn't think it was all that bad :(

The jury will be out until the next sweep and yes you can vote more than once on the same story if the ip's are different.... that to might be cleared up on the sweep but maybe not... Some people's IP switches each time they log in...

Votes register immediately, but views only update a few times during the day...

Oh yay, now I am getting anon emails too!!

This has really suprised me, if I read a story I don't like, whether it is the style, the content or whatever. I don't finish it, I vote usually and I wont go on to read any more of their stuff. If I love something I will email the person, I will leave feedback and anything I do I put my name too.

How cowardly is it to email someone saying you don't like a non consent story...(In the non consent category!!!) and not even sign your name!

Does this happen alot?

I always thought this site was about constructive critism, and praise where it was due. Am I taking this all to heart a bit much? Probably.

Sorry for the rant.

Think you just got unlucky, Fairy. Try not to take it to heart...

Trolls are overrated and forget about them. I think you should not have deleted the criticism, though. It may have helped you. (though I have not read your story so cannot say on a personal level).

Thanks, for the replies.
Not seeing how the negative comments would help? Obviously still quite new to this, all comments helpful.
V - trying not to take it to heart! :)

Let me guess which new story.,... The one in non consent/reluctant.... And the main distractor is supposedly a husband and wife team...

If so, join the club... you must have something that alludes to rape.... they will destoy a story even when they don't read it....

Does this happen a lot?

Non consent is one of those categories that attract "trolls" who object to the category even existing -- Incest is another.

My first story was also in the non-consent category and somewhere way back in the archives is a long discussion with one of the people who admittted to casting a low vote -- a person who spent nearly a week defending his low vote on the grounds that it encouraged rapists and degraded women before admitting that he hadn't even read the story; a story which was, in fact, a "shaggy dog" story about an oversexed karate champion who turns the tables on a gang of rapists; as much of an anti-rape story as I could make it.

Not all non-consent stories get down-voted by anti-rape activists simply because of their category, but it is far from uncommon and the exceptions seem to be mostly nonconsent portions of longer stories with a "fan base" that overcomes the anti-rape activists.

Thanks for reply and thanks to TxRad, I hadn't looked at it that way. Don't feel so bad now...kind of makes me want to go and write another one! If you don't want to read about it don't look! :D

A lot of us are. I entered my name for the Survivor comp, but haven't actually played yet, inasmuch as I haven't keep score or anything. Not sure how much energy I have for competition, but I pull my name down in case I changed my mind :)

Do you like my stories then? <fishing>

If ever you have been a writer in the real world? Negative comments count. They count because they say something, even if that something is as lame in the erotic genre as "It did not get me off."

Why does it mean something? Because it says something just as valid as someone who comments, " I SO GOT OFF!".

But, why do "you" value the one comment over the other?

Yes I completley agree negative comments matter and count, and everything else...however only if you can learn something from it.

There is no point in saying "Readers don't bother, I gave up after the first paragraph..."

Negative comments are valid if you can take something from it, if it was I don't like your style, you use too much dialoug, or you over use a certain word or something I can take something from that asses whether I agree and then change. I write erotica cos I know people get off on it, so yes getting a comment like "I got off on this" makes me happy, as I am sure it does most writers here. I would love to know more, why, what it was in particular they liked etc etc.

Have to admit now I have calmed down a bit it doens't matter as much as it did at 5.30!! So what if someone who isn't even proud enough of their comments to let everyone see who they are doesn't like my story? I have written plenty of stuff that I get realy positive remarks on. Maybe next time some spineless person takes a poke I wont be so annoyed by it :)

V - yes, have read alot of your stuff tonight and I really like it, you get right to the point, I like that.

*HUGS*

Same thing happened to me with my only nonconsent story. I sign on in the morning to see if it had gone up. It had and all the public comments were bad. Although there were only two.

I post one verbatim.

"Fukin gpiece of mediocre crap, no one knows how to write good erotic stories anymore, thaT was just sex... it needs more. your hero was pathetic and the way he treated the librarian was terrible."

I didn't take it or the other one seriously. Why should I take the brain damaged with anything other than a grain of salt?

By the end of the day, I had close to 20 public comments and all were very good.

It balances out.

"So Charley, what do you think about the sci-fi/fantasy genre?"

'Depends, what do you mean by sci-fi?'

"Science fiction. fiction that includes science."

'Doesn't all fiction include science?'

"Not as a main theme."

'So what would you say is a main theme?'

"The thing that the story is based on."

'When you say based, do you mean founded on or built upon?'

"Oh forget it..."

"It did not get me off" is not such a lame comment, when you're talking about erotica.

"That woman is a slut and she should be in jail, and her husband is a wimp and he should get butt-fucked by baboons"
now that's a lame comment.

If the story you're talking about is She Knows What She Wants, you posted it to NonConsent/Reluctance, so he should have had some idea what he was going to get.

Ignore the idiot. It's the nature of the site that we have some pretty cretinous readers - I'm not saying all our readers are idiots, but a proportion undoubtedly are; and the empty bottles make the most noise.
