Have I arrived?

Well, this is my 1000th post. I couldn't find a thread to post anything really meaningful in to celebrate this post, and I didn't want to just waste it in one of those "post counter" threads, because it's been a long time coming.

And I know this thread will disappear off the front page before the day shift even comes online, but that's okay. It's really only for me anyway, although if anyone wants to post in here you're more than welcome, and I'd appreciate the company.

I've been here for five months now, and I've learned all kinds of things, some of which I'm not sure I wanted to know I've experienced everything from arguments, to laughter, to sheer indifference. It's not always been easy. It is a tough crowd, and I have left here in tears on several occasions. But I keep coming back, not because of boredom, but because of the people (okay, and sometimes because of the naked pictures ).

Oftentimes I feel like I'm on the outside looking in, but that's really no different than how I feel offline also. And there's nothing like telling a joke and having it fall completely flat , but I think that happens to everyone. I try to be really honest in everything I write here, and sometimes I think I'm being TOO honest or just saying too much, pouring out too much of my soul, but that's kind of where I am in my life right now. I held it in for so many years, I tend to "slit my wrist" and let it all pour out now, but I AM trying to rein it in a bit. I know it can be too much at times.

I haven't made any deep friendships here yet, although there are people I'm drawn to through their posts and would like to get to know better, so I'm hopeful. This is a crazy crazy group of very diverse people here, and that's what makes this place so interesting, and I think that's what makes it work so well. There's a constant flow and ebb of the full range of "human-ness" going on here.

My warm congrats on pulling up next to your 1,000 post marker.

You know, it often takes a long long time to really make friends. One can know a bunch of people and be friendly with them, but to really make friends - real freinds - is an entirely different ball of string, isn't it? When we invest bits of ourselves in a place like Lit, a place as alive and writhing with all the kinds of energy there is, we sometimes wonder if we're simply off to the side, feeling the brush of that energy going past us, not really partaking of the mainstream current.

But we all play a part here.
You, too - most definitely.
One cannot possibly get to 1,000 posts and be invisible in this place, WhiteRose. It's impossible. You're a part of the tapestry here just as much as any of us who've elected to stay and weave ourselves into the pattern. You're just as important, just a necessary, just as vital.

We all have bittersweet moments and down times and days, too, when we feel euphoric in our participation in this place. Every one of us goes through the same cycle of emotions, darlin'. In that you're not unique.

And you're not unique in that because you're one of us just as surely as is anyone else.

Again, warm congrats on seeing it out to your 1,000th post.
I hope your 2,000th post finds you happy and blissfully forgetful of the bittersweet moments that threaded this one.

Why, thank you Ms Lips I've enjoyed your posts also.

I've heard lots of other newbies express some of the same sentiments, so I know it's not just me, and I try not to take it personally. Sometimes people just don't have anything to say at the moment or have other things on their minds, and we (newbies) can't expect to be "babied" along. It takes time to get to know people and to let them know us.
