Has Rush Limbaugh finally jumped the shark?

Some of you may have heard about Rush Limbaugh's astounding reaction to an ad that Parkinson's Disease sufferer Michael J. Fox made to support several congressional candidates. He accused Fox of exagerating the effects of his disease and acting for the camera during the ad. This was despicable enough...

But tonight I saw a video clip of him making those idiotic comments during his show, and it simply has to be seen to be believed.

Sorry for the long clip

Rush Limbaugh is an incurable asshole. Someday medical science may find a cure for Parkinsons, but not Limbaugh's brand of assholery.

I never had much respect for Limbaugh...even before his reprehensible remarks about Michael J. Fox.

Rush is a dinosaur who hasn't realized he's extinct.

I listen to talk radio nearly every day, and at eleven a.m. in my part of the world, Rush's little show comes on. Predictably, he starts off blasting what he calls the 'drive-by media' and then launches the same sad attack on liberals and democrats, chopping up their sound bites and acting like his 'moral sensibilities' have been enraged by their 'shamelessness.'

Ten, or even five, years ago, Rush Limbaugh might have had something constructive and proactive to say about politics. Now, however, he is just a clumsy old man who is riding the coat tails of his 'glory days' and feeding the egos of like-minded (and closed-minded) idiots who fear change and challenge on any level.

Alas, inflammatory remarks and cheap shots are all the rage these days. They make ratings, be it on AM radio, in the newspaper, or on television. And ratings are more important than sincerity or acceptance or even (gasp!) an admission of being wrong.

Pretty much makes me ashamed to be an American.

p.s. And, yes, I am QUITE SURE Michael J. Fox has been exaggerating his battle with Parkinson's for the last ten years or so, just to gear up for a bold political move to support left-wing Democrats. What a shifty fellow Mr. Fox is, to be sure . . . .

Actually, Fox has said in the past that when he testified before congress he didn't take his medication intentionally so that it the affects would be especially dramatic. It is an interesting question whether him not staying on his meds was him being dishonest to sway opinion, or particularly brave, showing how truly awful the disease is. I didn't hear Rush's comments, but have heard much of the aftermath. It seems he used Fox's earlier revelation to blast him as doing the same thing in the political ad.

In the end, Limbaugh doesn't have any real credibility left. His 3rd divorce and drug arrest has made him irrelevant to anyone not already completely buying into his rhetoric. The ads have been particularly vicious from the left and right this time around, so Fox's ad doesn't surprise me at all. Personally, I found it in poor taste.

What I keep hearing these days when I look at American politics is, "A house divided against itself cannot stand."

I read a commentary on it that I particularly liked, which basically said if he did stop taking his medication to show the reality of Parkinson's, he was giving an idea what the disease is like for the normal people out there who don't have access to all the best medications and treatments because their insurance won't cover them.
To me, it's not deceitful for him to do that; the fact is he has a horrible disease, and his activism, on all its levels, has done so many good things for research of Parkinson's, and to criticize him or mock him for that activism is absolute shit.

Well said.

rush is just doing his lowly assignment. it's beneath cheney, so the attack dog routine goes to rush. (wasn't cheney just on rush's show?)

Indeed. Whatever spin Limbaugh or anyone else try to put on it, they can't escape the fact that the guy has Parkinson's. It's not a fucking cold. It's serious stuff.

Indeed.

I have a stepsister with Parkinson's, and watching her slowly deteriorate is painful in the extreme, especially when there's really nothing that can be done to help her.

Five or ten years ago, Rush said that the Liberals are jealous of Bush because "Bush is tall and handsome"

He might have had something constructive to say, but he never said it.

I saw the Rush clip a couple days ago. I'm glad Keith Obermann caught it too. Keith is much more popular than Rush.

The only think I can say about Rush is he's become a master at showing himself to be the TURD he really is.

My grandfather died of Parkinson. It was terrible to see this strong, intelligent man being affected by the disease to the point were he had problems coordinating his movements, and problem putting together the words - especially when his mind was just as clear and bright as ever. He was a prisoner in his own body.

To even suggest that this cruel suffering is ACTING is an insult. I hope and pray that Rush Limbaugh or one of his nearest will get this disease, so he can learn up close what it's really about. Then maybe he'll learn to shut his eff-ing mouth about serious matters!

And the medications don't cure it or even slow it down; they just dampen symptoms to alleviate suffering.

hey, in the US they'll attack the patriotism of Democrat war veterans who've lost legs. 9-11 widows who agitate, etc.

parkinsons is small potatoes.

rove's boys will be out with the bottles of castor oil pretty soon now, if they're not out already.

Reality Check:

Fox has a disease that's killing him.

The guy could be on the floor making it look like Parkinson's resembles a permanent case of epileptic fits; it doesn't do anything for the end result of his problem, it's going to kill him.

It's like this...

Let's say I've got a gun to your head and I say "I'm going to shoot your fucking brains out." Are you going to 'hold back' on the tears and pleading about your children if you think it's the one thing that might make me not pull the trigger? I'm willing to bet most people would INVENT children if they thought it would help!

"Please senor... I've got 2 kids at home."
"Aren't you gay?"
"I adopted them from Mawala, just like Madonna... please sir, if you kill me, they'll send those poor children back to die of starvation or AIDS."
"Do you have pictures..."
"Hmmm... their religion forbids pictures, senor."

I bet if I put a gun to Rush's fat head; he'd be happy to offer his mouth as a receptable for my seed.
