Has Anyone Deleted Any Public Comments?

(Merry Christmas, everyone! Mommy and Daddy here are still recovering from the kid frenzy all day long.)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has felt the need to erase someone's public comments?

On one of my stories (How-To category) a person said they enjoyed the story but added quite a few "important" points to my topic. (Some of the suggestions they made were actually in the story.) I will probably delete the comments, but I almost want to send them a quick note to say, "Hey! Great ideas! Why don't you incorporate them into your next How-To story?"

Or would that be too rude?

:D

I'm working hard on this "Good Will toward Men" stuff, ya know!

(I have included the link below, if anyone is curious - )

Anal Sex (Gasp!): A Hands-On Manual

The only comments I have ever deleted were two that I made about my own stories to check out the new feature. I don't think I would ever delete a public comment, unless it was just something stupid, such as a racist comment made about an interracial story or something said by an obviusly deranged person. I have no problem with criticism.

I think it is great that people are starting to use the pub com thing, but it is up to you whether you want to delete it. But good or bad, unless it is offensive or racist (BL's point), probably leave it up.

I think if I were in a similar position, I might post my own pc on the story, explaining a bit about the story or answering a question raised, and kindly suggesting something along the lines of "and feel free to write you own how-to" (the person doesn't need to know you are being sarcastic!:D ) rather than sending them an email. Cheers, WT

The more comments the better...

Who really cares one way or the other what people say? In the end we each show our own ignorance, or intelligence when we comment so no comment can be bad.

Since most interracial stories are already sufficiently non-PC to be classed as racist, I fail to see the problem here.

Your comments are sometimes a little strange,
He is deranged.

I've only received two, both favorable.
(And the second was on my most recent story. It had a
public comment, 1,000 downloads, and 13 votes before I
knew it was up.)
I don't think I'll ever remove a comment actually on the
story. OTOH, I've seen threads on other foums hijacked to
express hate speech -- racist or antisemitic comments --
as the author has final authority to pull comments, he
is finally responsible forwhat stays up.

So far, I wouldn't remove either of my two (lonely *grin*) public comments. But, they're both favorable, so I may be a tiny bit biased. *laughs softly*

Even if they were critical, I don't think I would remove them, unless they flagrantly violated a lit rule (posting urls, etc...) But, I suppose I won't know for sure until someone publically hammers me. (no, that is not an invitation!)

Whisper :rose:

As long as the comments are about the story (or in my case, poem) and doesn't contain personal attacks, It stays in. I've had mostly favorable comments, and have had to remove one bad one in the lines of "You are a stupid cunt. I hope you die.".

But those merely saying that my writing sucks (have one or two of those too), I'll leave in. It's a free world, as long as you're civil about it, say what you want.

Thanks, WT - I like that!

Besides, anyone who reads the public comments will probably have read the story first. D'oh to me! (At one point I believed that the public comments would become story advertisements, but of course they are "after the fact" sorts of things.)

Perhaps I need more Christmas rum. Then everything will make sense!

:D

I will probaly treat the public comments inthe same way I do Annon fedback. If the feedback (good or bad) is well thought out and applicable to the story I will leave it. If it is simply a nastygram I will delete it. I only have one so far so it hasn't been something I have thought too much about :)

My response:

I would have to take issue with that. First, my stories are basically smut, and not very PC under an circumstances but, outside of that, there is nothing offensive about them and nothing the least bit racist. I have written four stories classified as interracial, one BDSM where the woman who was tied up was African-American, and one group sex story where the woman was AA and the three men were white. In all six stories, the sex was mutually enjoyable and consensual. The first I/R story I wrote was about a woman from Japan who enjoyed oral sex. The other five stories were written specifically for five women readers who wanted me to feature them in stories, and I included their race as part of their descriptions. In all six stories, the race of the characters was not of any real consequence.

In the BDSM story, I received an anon. feedback something like "Good for you. All niggers should be tied-up". This was not actually a public comment but was sent to me as feedback. I deleted it, although I keep most feedback I receive.

My response:

An example of feedback from "an obviously deranged person" would be the one that Linbido said she received: "You are a stupid cunt. I hope you die.". If I received a public comment like that one or the racist one, I would delete them, but otherwise I would not do anything, although I might respond to the writer of the comment.

Ahum.

Isn't this a bit of a luxury problem?

What is there to delete if you have none or one public comment?:D

I must say, BT, you are right. I have only two public comments and both were complimentary. I would never delete one of them but I wish I would get more. Also, more sent to my email address.

I haven't run into that problem yet

I've only had three comments, all on one story. The one unfavorable was kind of washed out by the next two so I didn't really worry about it. Hell I figure anyone who reads one of my stories and thinks enough about it to post a comment is worth at least listening to, even if I don't agree with what they say.

I've deleted one which I had made to my own story, just to check. The place where they show the number of comments on the story - Login - Submissions - View, shows 3 comments (2 + 1 which I deleted) and when I go to the part where I can read comments, it says - showing 2 of 2 comments. Does this happen to everyone? Do the comments we delete still count?

I didn't think I would ever do it, but I added my own pc to the today (and gave myself a 100 while doing it :D )

At the end of my story Innocent Pawn Ch.03 I wrote staright after "To be continued..." something along the lines of "let me know if you want me to continue this story, I am thinking about doing this etc in Ch.04. A lot of people have sent feedback saying do this, don't do that, which has completely re-shaped how I would have written Ch.04. So that is why I have added the pc comment saying it is from the author, and that I welcome any suggestions on how you would like the story to develop.

Has anyone else done this?

Am I a nob?

I only had to delete one comment so far, but it was from a friend who had included personal info. Before deleting I PMed the person and explained, so no harm done.

What really pisses me off about PCs is that most negative feedback is anonymous. I mean, if it's just a regular 'it sucks', I couldn't care less, but if it raises some valid points, it would be nice to be able to answer! Sheesh...
