So I found myself at the theatre watching the second in this series of movies. Having not seen the first and only getting an 8 y/o's interpretation of it I am curious about a few things. Hopefully someone can help me.

What the fuck were the spiders for? If they had nothing to do with the attacks and hated the basillica why were they always there?

And if Hegert (cant remember his name) was really a friend...why the hell did he tell them to follow the spiders? He must have known they would try and eat them?

Everything else made sense except the damn spiders!

The spiders were more explained in the book.

The Spider King was Hagrid's pet, during the time of the first killing at Hogwarts. It was thought that the spider was the monster then.

The Spider was the only one that they could get information from about the real monster and how to find it.

Hagrid does not think any "kritter" can be evil, so he did not think that they would be in danger.

no idea went way over my head - I will check with my 9 year old son who has a phd on the subject and let you know

The spiders hated the monster thing so they were all fleeing Hogwarts. That's why they were always shown trailing out a window near the scene of the crime. At least that is how I remember it.

All points made here are good, but another is that the spiders were spies for the giant Spider...

thanks...things are fitting a little better now

I figured there would be some loss of explaination when you bring a 1000 pages down to 2 hours or so.

It still seemed a bit stupid that when Harry found the entrance to the chamber he didnt get some 'real' help to go with him...and I hate how they made it so easy by having the bird scratch out the basalisc's eyes out in like two seconds.

it was enjoyable though...

The Two Towers....this is the movie I await

yes, but remember Fawkes the phoenix only came because Harry said 'Dumbledore is the greatest sorceror!" to Voldemort.
Is this some key phrase? Like open Sesame?

I already have my tickets for TTT... 1159PM on Tuesday *YAY!

Besides... the Phoenix is the Basilisks natural Enemy...

well some one knows their myths:cool: if i remember the phoenix hates all dragon-esqe creatures, so the basilisk would of course be among them

but would not the phoenix also die instantly if it saw the eyes of the basalisk?

being the natural Enemy of the Basilisk, the Phoenix would close its eyes before pecking. *G*
