Actually, this thread is just a shameless ploy to wonder WTF is the guy third from the right doing ogling the Queen's (quite impressive) rack? [edit to add: This is at an "author's corner" at the Queen's 80th Birthday. JK Rowling is front right.]

'Harry Potter' Actor to Be Naked on Stage
Daniel Radcliffe 'Looking Forward' to 'Equus' Role

In one scene, Radcliffe is required to simulate sexual ecstasy while riding a horse naked.

The Cooler Squirms:
"We like our boy wonders fully clothed"
LONDON (July 28) - Daniel Radcliffe will strip off his Harry Potter eyeglasses and robes for his London stage debut next year.

The 17-year-old actor, who plays the bespectacled schoolboy wizard in the Hollywood adaptations of J.K. Rowling's novels, will star as a troubled stableboy in Peter Shaffer's "Equus."

The play delves into the psyche of a boy named Alan Strang who blinds six horses with a metal spike. The production is scheduled to open next March in the West End theater district, said spokesman Peter Thompson.

"It is an extraordinary play, and he's very much looking forward to the role," Radcliffe's spokeswoman, Vanessa Davies, said Friday. "He is maturing as an actor and beginning to take on new and challenging roles."

In one scene the actor playing Strang is required to simulate sexual ecstasy while riding a horse naked. But Davies said nudity was not the focus of the play.

Richard Griffiths, who plays Harry's Uncle Vernon in the films, is lined up to play the psychiatrist who interviews the troubled youth.

Radcliffe is now filming "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," the fifth installment in Harry's adventures, and recently finished shooting "December Boys," the story of four orphans who compete for adoption.

"Equus" opened in 1973 at London's National Theatre, before a successful run on Broadway starring Anthony Hopkins. Richard Burton starred in a 1977 film adaptation.

Doing this play might be the only thing that will help him break the stereotype of being Harry Potter as he gets older. Ron Howard was considering doing a porno film in order to break his image as Opie Taylor and Richie Cunningham. I think you'll seem something similar with the girl who plays Hermione, too.

Very astute, Boota. And of course, any actor appears naked onstage if he plays in Equus, so the headline isn't very shocking. I love the pic, though.

Yep. Getting typecasted as a popular character is a great way to start a career. But it takes some major messing with fans' expectations to move on afterwards.

btw, Does anyone know who the oogler is? It's apparently a line of authors. I'm suddely getting the urge to read something by the guy.

Equus is a tough play to WATCH, much less act in. I have not managed to even READ the play all the way through, although I've had it for years.

What gets me, though, is "Uncle Vernon" playing the psychiatrist...

As far as the Harry Potter movies go they had better start shooting them faster or they will have to get their grandkids to play them in part 6 and 7. I'm thinking at least 6 and 7 should be shot simulataneously. The kids already look a lot older than their characters are supposed to be.

But at least she can actually act, while he's just terrible. So it will be tough for him, even tougher for him than it was for Frodo -- sorry, Elijah Wood

Not to mention their characters are a lot older than they're supposed to act.

Funny, I've never thought of Elijah Wood as stuck in a LOTR typecast. His career started so long before then and has always been so varied.

Which, IMHO, is why, when they started casting, they should have gotten kids who were a year YOUNGER than the actual characters rather than the exact age of the characters.

Did no one in the movie business think: "Hm. If any of these movies takes more than a year to make and put out these kids are going to start looking older than they're suppose to be. And it'll get worse with each sucessive movie..."

Of course, the REAL problem is that Rowling doesn't focus much on how the characters change in the books (at least, not in the first three or so). We don't get a lot about Harry starting to get taller or have hair in funny places or his voice dropping, nor mention of Hermione starting to get curves. Most readers had Harry pictured as an eleven-year-old up till the lastest books. Yet there's a big difference between a boy aged 11 and aged 14 as the movies very quickly established.

Luckily for Potter readers, Radcliffe is turning out to be really sexy and cute and so movie goers will keep going to sigh over him. I think Equus will do very well for that reason. And so will Radcliffe being an English actor. They have an easier time escaping typecasting than American actors because British filmmakers are willing to give them a chance. American producers are not so willing.

Dennis Hopper was the snivelling shit in "Giant"
of course, he's played snivelling shits since then...
Julie Andrews hung her tits out in Blake Edward's movie "S.O.B" (great one, by the way!)and then she did Victor Victoria
Johnny Depp destroyed his Jump Street teen pinup image by spoofing it in "Cry Baby"

Ron Howard did one of the best jobs of leaving an image behind, IMO.

And so did Shirley Temple who became a distinguished diplomat!

Ah yes, Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria. One of the best typecast-busting performances of all. I liked the jaded Jerry Lewis in "King of Comedy" too.

Personally, I hate then self-conscious attempt by stars to break typecast. I can imagine them making the petulant call to their agents. Julia Roberts in Erin Brokovich. Arnie in Kindergarten Cop. Blech.

LOL - hey! I liked Victor/Victoria! LOL

Is any Hollywood movie these days more than a typecast to make money? Parts 1, 2, 3?

I wonder if I should forward all the spam emails I get for "Natural Penis Enhancement" to Elijah Wood before I go to see this :D

Victor/Victoria was a typecasting-buster for Robert Preston, too!

I'd like to see Bill Murray attempt a role where he plays an overenthusiastic optimist
