Emilly Harper sat in a lounge in the garden a soft blanket over her legs protecting her from the morning chill as the sun beat down on her warming her face. She had opted to leave her hair down this morning instead of pulling up into her typical tight braid. Her long golden locks fells in soft curls and waves down her back and over her shoulders.
For the first time in several days she felt at peace and relaxed. Two days ago her father Armonde had informed her and her mother Angela that there would be a group of their friends that would be coming to stay for two weeks a small get togethor out of the city before the new season was to begin.
Emilly and her mother had argued with him for hours to no end. he was determind to have his way, stating " i am tired of my daughter hiding in this manor like a recluse damit!! it's time she met a nice fellow and married." with that said he looked to his daughter and Emily shuddered knowing that he meant what he said. " i love you gal and it's time you realised there is life outside of this place."
Emilly knew better than to argue with him when he had his head st to something and opted to not say anything at all. turning to his wife " i suggest you two start working to prepare.. they should be arriving before the end of this week." Gasping Angela looked at her husband as if he had two heads. " you've lost your mind.. that's not nearly enough time. how many people did you invite Armonde?!"
shrugging he looked at his wife." only 30 or 40. not so many. and i did not want to give you enough time to call it off before they arrived. i would say all things concidered i told you at just the right time." laughing he stood and had left the room. For the last three days Emilly had done what she could to help her mother prepare and plan for everyone. They had succeeded and now she was able to sit and enjoy the day in silence.
when she heard the crunching of wheels on rock she knew her peace had come to an end. when her parents came out of the door to the garden and approached her she sighed " it's time then huh?"
feeling like the main attraction in a side show she wraped her arms around her father's neck as he lifted her up and placed her in her chair.
they came to a stop infront of the doors and watched as several people Lady's bedecked in their finest country garb and the gentlmen just as impressive began to step from the coach. soon their was another coach and another. so many people and greetings and almost all of them looking at her with pitty in their eyes. she could hear them whispering as they moved into the house after greeting the family. she was just about to ask to be taken to her rooms when a very tall gallant looking man steped from the coach a wide smile on his chisled face.
It was as if god himself had krept into her dreams and pulled this man into the world. she could feel her heart beating wildly in her chests as he approached them. Greeting her parents first shaking hands with her father and kissing her mothers hand before his turned his attention down to her.
" you must be Emilly, i have heard so much about you.. nothing could have prepared me for your loveliness however. i am please to finally get to meet you in person." bending he took her hand and placed a warm kiss on her knuckle. speachless at first still lost in the sound of his warm voice she barely heard him until she felt his warm lips pressed to her flesh.
looking into his eyes she licked her dy lips. " thank you sir." unsure what else to say she could not find it in her to look away from him as she had the others. her father placed his hand on her shoulder as he smiled and looked down at her. " Emilly dear this is Markus or as you may remember me telling you the new Lord Draven."
emily smiled and looked up at the man again. lord but he was handsome. she nearly forgot to breath as he made his fairwell until later. her parents escorted her back to the garden and into the house. her fathers strong arms held her tightly against him as he carried her up the stairs to her rooms, so that she could change and prepare for lunch. when she was alone she rolled her chair over to the window and looked out.
several of the guests where outside in the garden Lord Draven was amoung them. She could not look away as she watched him flirting with Libby clarckson. sighing she closed her eyes as she turned from the window. " foolish girl, of course he would find Libby attractive all the young me did. she knew that from the few times she had attended parties with her parents. Libby was always the bell of the ball.
once again she damned the chair she sat in to hell and her useless legs with it. if only she had not fallen down the marble stairs when she was a little girl, she would be out right now with the other people her age enjoying the sun and having fun. instead she sat inside alone as was usual when there where other people around.
no one wanted to be reminded that there where real tragidies in the world besides who was seeing how and who had gotten what silk dress from what shop. when ever she entered a room one of things would happen the group would ignore she was there or they would look at her with pity in their eyes. oh how she hated their pity. and she hated this idea of her fathers even more.
