Hi all. We are going to be working on the servers starting around 2pm (PST) this afternoon, June 7, 2001. There may be some down time during the work, so please be aware that it's just us fooling around.
For those of you that care about the specifics of what's being done:
We are adding a load balancing unit to allow the three servers currently delivering pages to be more efficient. The load balancer will keep an eye on each server's resources and it will send user requests to the server which is doing the least work at the time the request is made. In theory, this should allow us to make the site a lot faster using the existing hardware.
