Beannachtam na Femle Padraig,

I am Irish, from my dad's side, for he was 100%:D
So today is a very special day for me, for I keep his tradition alive:D

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY :kiss: :heart: :rose:

HAPPY ST. PATTY'S EVERYBODY!! :D

Saint Patrick was born in England not Ireland
The national color of Ireland is green
Erin go Bragh translates to Ireland forever
The first St. Patrick's day parade was in 1737
If you catch a leprechaun it must tell you where it's treasure is hidden
15 million cards are exchanged on St. Patrick's day
10% of all St Patrick's Day cards are sold in New York

The origins of St. Patrick are surrounded in mystery and folklore. St. Patrick is often confused with Palladius, who was sent to Ireland in the 5th century by Pope Celestine. Patrick's most famous accomplishment is to have driven the snakes from Ireland. This should not be interpreted literally, as there is no evidence that there were any snakes in Ireland, as it has been a separate island for thousands of years. Scholars believe that snakes were symbolic figures and idols used in the pagan rituals that were being practiced at this time in Ireland.

Kissing the Blarney Stone is said to give you the ability to be a "smooth talker". Just down the road from the village of Cork in Ireland you'll find the town of Blarney. The castle that stands today was built in 1446 and is the third castle built on that spot. In one of the towers on the third story in pit you'll find the legendary blarney stone. To actually kiss the stone requires some effort. To perform the task properly you sit at the edge with your back towards the stone. With someone holding feet you bend over backwards, lowering yourself into the hole using handrails until your head is low enough o kiss the stone.

The legend goes something like this the king of Munster saved an old woman from drowning. To repay him she put a spell on the stone at the top of the castle, and if he would kiss the stone he would have the ability to influence others with fair words and soft speech.
:D

It looks as though Lit ate my second post last night... not that it surprises me at all. ;)

May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow
May the soft winds freshen your spirit
May the sunshine brighten your heart
May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you
And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.

My father's Mom was Irish through and through. Protestant Somervilles from Belfast, and Catholic McCormicks from County Cork. Unfortunately, those family names have almost died out... there's only one person left that bears either family name, and he's a retired Catholic priest.

*Slips Father Walt a pint of green beer and a stogie* Cheers!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I have some irish blood on my mom's side. I am not sure exactly how much. Our family has such a mixture! lol. But there are alot of red heads on her side of the family, my brother is also (what's left) and she has relatives named McCaghren and we are decendants of the McCoys, of the Hatfield and McCoy's feud! And there are alot of us that have that Irish temper! It mostly is just a fun holiday for us. And the kids especially like to try to find someone not wearing green so they can pinch them! Since my birthstone is emerald I would always wear emerald earrings or ring, just in case I didn't have something green!!!!

Hope everyone enjoys the day!

I am 100% Irish, Mothers family from the Cork area and father from around Belfast, i was born just outside Belsfast

So Happy St Patricks day to you all

Hi Arden!
Hi Carrie! I love green too, especially emerald green. I have picture that shows an emerald green ring that I wear every day, but I can't post it... :devil:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he couldn't stand still. He asked Father Murphy for some advice. Father Murphy replied, "When I'm worried about gettin' nervous on the pulpit, I take a wee bit o' whiskey. Just to calm my nerves." So the next Sunday he took the older priest's advice. Before the mass, he got nervous and took a drink. He then proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon return to his office after mass, he found the following note on his door:
1. A few sips of whiskey. Not the whole bottle.
2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.
3. There are 12 disciples, not 10.
4. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.
5. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass.
6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.
7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Senior, Junior, and the Spook.
8. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the shit out of him.
9. When David was hit by a rock and knocked off his donkey, don't say "He was stoned off his ass."
10. We do not refer to the cross as the Big T!
11. When Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper he said, "Take this and eat it, for it is my body"; he did not say, Eat me."
12. The Virgin Mary is not referred to as the, "Mary with the Cherry".
13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: "Rub-A-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yea God"
14. Next Sunday there will be a taffy-pulling contest at St. Patrick's, not a patrick-pulling contest at St. Taffy's.
Why not? ;)
An Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding in Connecticut. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest's breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car. He says, "Sir, have you been drinking?" "Just water," says the priest. The trooper says, "Then why do I smell wine?" The priest looks at the bottle and says, "Good Lord! He's done it again!"
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY
I am not Irish at all, I am more American Indian than anything, though I don't think they have a holiday for that.:(
