Longest night of the year tonight.

I'll be lighting a candle instead of burning the Yule Log--no fireplace :( Everyone keep the faith. The Sun will return! :)

i love the dark. something mysterious about night time. i really like short days too.

so, im a bit "off".
*shrug*

I'm burning some for Moonie.
going to get some nice bayberry ones for Christmas eve.

I kind of like this time of year... I've been having a ball going for walks in the dark, surrounded by swirling fog.

But I'll light a candle anyway :rose:

Candles are good. In more ways than one.

Fireplaces?

I have a few.

Nine of them in the 'old' house and two in the 'new' one, one fitted with a gas fire.

The first winter in the 'old' house I used eight tonnes of coal.

That's a lot of ash and clinker.

My brother's old 'old' house built 1637 had an inglenook fireplace in the kitchen. During their first winter they had a succession of large Yule Logs burning in it to attempt to keep the kitchen warm and dry. They failed. One wall was missing, the upper floor held up with Acrojacks, and two sheets of polythene as a replacement. My sister in law cooked Christmas dinner wearing her fur-lined boots and a thick overcoat.

Their Yule Logs had to be moved with a block and tackle.

Show off! :p

I would kill for a nice, stone hearth. I love sitting before a crackling fire on a cold, winter's night.
