Being a moderator has got to be a bit like being a plumber: most folks never acknowledge you until the shit is backed up into the living room. Then act surprised there was a plunger right next to the toilet.

Of course, in my neck of the woods a plumber gets 65 bucks an hour, so lets not stretch the metaphor too far!

I know it is a significant amount of thankless work, and that constraints on your authority and influence limit how effectively you can respond to complaints. But your efforts make this a better community for all of us and it is high time I expressed my appreciation for that.

Thank you, Eve, Lauren and Angeline (post facto), for all the time and energy you have devoted to this forum. I have grown significantly in my writing and understanding of poetry because of your efforts.

:rose: :rose: :rose:

Please send the bill to Laurel and Manu!

I can easily bury the cynic in me on this one. I think they do a mighty fine and thankless job. Hell they get all sorts of manure tipped over them that they don't deserve for things they haven't got any power over.

Thanks :rose: :rose: :rose:

I certainly hope it doesn't, Fly. I don't think any of us does what we do (or did) because of thanks. I, for one, do it because I think of Literotica as my cyber-home, and obviously want it to be as great a place as it can possibly be. :):rose:

Actually, you want it to have soaring roof lines and striking fenestration, but to be practical and energy efficient! :D

Annaswirls and Rybka have both helped out many times--even though neither of them has taken on the official moderator title as far as I know. They have just quietly done it. Um helping with moderating stuff, I mean. :D

They deserve kudos, too.

Absolutely. Both have done more for this community than many can imagine. :rose::rose:

God bless you.....

each and every one ( or whatever deity or life force you may follow)...

I am in awe of the dedication and forbearance you display on an ongoing basis....

mere words aren't enough.....

Give me a break

This sounds like a bit of mending fences. I don't take back anything I said. The site would be better without voting... Period. I do not imply that the moderators have an easy pro bono job, just that they could help to eliminate the problems inherent with a competitive site. The owners, shortsightedly, could care less about most of us. This is a popularity contest among the minions of a couple people. What are a few people's opinions? Not much in their world. As long as the hits keep a coming, nothing will affect them.

The sad thing is that this site has the potential to be a model of fairness and balance, oh well....

QP, think: The moderators moderate the forum, this particular forum where you are posting now. That's it. None of us has anything to do with the voting system nor with anything related to story or poetry submissions.

With all due respect and I am quite sincere in my respect, I suggest you write to Laurel and offer to serve as a moderator. You will very quickly find out how much more that enables you to change the system.

My dear, I hate to say this but you'd never make it on fanstory, which is a very harsh site for constructive criticism. There are so many cliques there, it's ridiculous, (you pat their back and they'll pat yours) and there's no anonymous reviewing or if someone leaves a nasty remark, the admin. removes the comment/review. (the last is the only good thing about the site.) Being on Lit longer than most of you know, hell, this is nothing. I could sit and complain about all my votes without any feedback but I highly doubt it's going to get me anywhere. Or complain about the loss of votes - yada yada, whatever. I have 12 votes on one of my poems but with only 4 comments. Oh well, at least I know they took the time to read. I think a lot of people don't know what to say to me because they think it's SO personal and somewhat dark, they might hurt my feelings. Oh well, again. Not all my work is non-fiction and I try to make that clear. Yeah, oh well again.

What you're complaining about, which I saw on another thread, I do understand but this is a very large site. It's not all about poetry. I don't believe the owners/admins don't care. They have a lot to do to keep this site going. Good God! I wouldn't want the responsibility! I've never seen anything like this! I guess what it boils down to is that if you don't like what's going on, take a break from it all, come back when you've calmed down or simply leave. I had to at one point. We can't always get what we want - Rolling Stones (and no, I'm not trying to be smart or mean in any way - just saying my opinion is all)

Oh yeah. I really came here for this:

A :rose: for each mod. xox saldne

Damn it all! You know you have my password and read all my dirty pms. Admit it. You can do anything. ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

thank you mods and your helpers, you help to make my Lit stay 'interesting'. if it weren't for you wonderful people helping in public and sometimes in private then i'd probably have left Litland a long time ago and would still be stumbling around in the dark with my writing (at the moment i'm stumbling around with the light on lol ). so, thank you.

 :rose: :p
(choose among you who gets which emot. ;) and don't fight over the froggy!)

(QP in case you need an unbiased opinion, i have admin ability at other sites on the 'net. mods are mostly given limited ability. here, they are basically only able to open and close threads, to move threads, to edit inapropriate posts, to alter post titles etc. any other website technicalities are only carried out by the administrators. the administrators are able to give near-full powers to any moderators, but from what i understand of this site in the years since i have been here, the forum moderators have only forum adjustment abilities.

the voting system came into being a few years ago - sorry i don't have an exact date - at the request of writers. thinking further on the subject, just imagine how much this site would change without the voting statistics ability. there would be no top-lists, no poem/story awards, no holiday competitions, etc. sure the system could do with tweaking, especially in regard to the poetry section of the site, but i think the voting is here to stay. perhaps it would be better to brainstorm how to make the voting specifically better for poetry - we can do this among ourselves without involving the site admins, we just need to nut out a way. or, take control of your own poetry and turn off the voting section yourself. easy peasy really.)

I know you three do most of your work unseen, cutting out threads started by bots, or spam spam spam and the like.

Whenever someone takes a position of authority, they are immediately open targets for criticism, most of it towards things they have no control over.

Over which they have no control.

Like the grammar of the forum participants.

We are all human with human limitations. Mistakes are made by everyone. Bottom line, it takes a lot of self confidence to be a moderator-- to keep going knowing there will be people who misunderstand, misjudge... and still have the gumption to keep going. Thank goodness! :rose:

Thank you for all of the hard work y'all do around here, I have a love/hate relationship with this place, and you help keep the scales tipped in love's favor.

thank goodness your butts smell like roses

Interesting. Those two names were are my mind the other day. I was thinking of starting some sort of holiday, thank you thread. And I was thinking about how those two have done so much. Anna and Fishie, it doesn't go unnoticed. :rose:

And um... why does that guy keep insisting we have control over voting? Weird.

I have no idea. I was checking out the top list over the past few days and every time I did I had one poem on there and it kept dropping lower on the list--and here's the weird part: it was never the same poem. lol.

And if this is a popularity contest, what do we win? I know I got that leather portfolio once, but it's not like I could take it to meetings or anything. I mean don't get me wrong Laurel, I love it and you, but yknow saying you're an award-winning poet on the number-one porn site doesn't exactly get you on the Nobel finalist list.

I have a very nice literotica pen--with case--from last year's most influential sex pot poet. It's still in the case. I plan to take it to the next PTA meeting. And why not? I wore my bdsm pendant to the last one. Of course, around here, no one gets it. This is bluegrass, deer hunting, NASCAR country. UHHH! Someone just spank me into a coma!

I won three contests ("not sexpot," "not sexpot--illustrated" and "not sexpot of the year"), and I only got one portfolio. Not that I hold a grudge or anything. :D

I just made Lauren listen to me bitch about it for months.
