Happy May Day to all my Lit Friends

Thanks mayi!!!

In ancient times, May Day was a pagan holiday that celebrated planting of the years crops that would sustain them for the upcoming year. A festival of re-birth in the cycle of life. Showing respect and love of Mother Nature...giver of life.

Although it has been stolen from us, and replaced by "Law Day"....and Labor Day....May Day or Intenational Workers Day, had at it's heart, the struggle for an 8 hour day of work. It's resounding changes in the way workers had to devote their lives to their bosses whims...at the expense of their family's, lives on everyday.

Both are wonderful reasons to celebrate the day!!! :D :D :D

Happy May Day! I always heard of May day but never knew what exactly is was for. I love spring, everything coming back to life. The flowers starting to bloom. The weather is pleasant. And lucky me, I was born in this month! Thinks for starting a thread celebrating it Mayi. I was thinking about it earlier, but was at a birthday party!

When I was in school (way back in the 50's and 60's) we used to have May Day Celebrations......complete with the Maypole. Our school district even had district wide programs......sniff, sniff......the good old days.

I have always liked May Day, when I was young we would make baskets and fill them with flowers from our yard. Then mom would take me and my sister around to the 'little old ladies' in town and we would put the baskets on their front doors. That is where I get my love for flowers and spring. Thanks 69 for your input :rose:. Spring is a time for renewal and reawakening, my favorite time of the year. A chance to make anew old friendships or lost ones.

To everone, take this time to renew, rediscover and plant those things you want to harvest later.
