I know I'm late, Mr. C., but you now have me curious.

Do you Brits celebrate us twits breaking away from the UK?

I can see why you might. We aren't very cultured. We play an dimwitted, adulterated form of cricket, after all. ;)

We in Portugal celebrate the independence of our African ex-colonies. Technically it's called Day of Freedom and it's supposed to be about the overthrowing of the fascist regime, but I think that for a whole lot of men of my father's generation, it's more like Thank-God-That's-Over-Can-We-Stop-Fighting-For-These-Countries-And-Go-The-Fuck-Back-Home-Please Day. :D

At the rate we're going, men in my son's generation will be saying the same thing. Maybe. If we ever celebrate the independence of our Middle Eastern Ex-Colonies.
