yes it is. supposedly the left hand is the hand of the devil..which orgionates from older kabalic concepts of the left side, or left hand path of the tree of life being the side of severity, not mercy like the right...and because of the harshness associated with, vrs the kindness that god would show, christains associated the left hand/side with that of the devil... and resultingly other religions with jewish ancestory follow that idea... of course you can also see beliefs in other cultures pertaining to the left side of the body being the "evil" or out of balance side... but those thought processes really had little influnce on the western mindset till more recent centuries.
