As the Autumnal Equinox passes, summer official draws to a close.

Autumn is my favorite time of the year ... cooling temperatures, the beauty of the changing of the leaves, the conclusion of the pennant race and World Series in baseball, the (American) football season getting into full gear.

What's your favorite time of year and why?

And Happy Autumn :D

Autumn is my favorite, as well.

The summer heat in Houston is so oppressive, the cooling weather truly makes me feel freed of some heavy weight.

I won't have to wait for the sun to go down in order to go running. I can turn off the air conditioner. I can actually go a few days without shaving my legs and, thank heavens, wear pants once in a while.

It's like the world is opening up for me.

Happy Autumn :D

And to you, dear Nero.

Fall is my favorite as well. I love watching the leaves change and how they almost seem to flame against the sky. I love the mellowness of the light, how it changes from bright hot summer to soft warm gold. I love the spicy smells of gingerbread and pumpkin anything, and I love how it's sort of a slow gearing up in anticipation of the holidays.

Fall is my favorite time of year!

We live in the mountains where the brilliant colors of fall is all around. We have haunted forest ,corn maze, hay rides ,craft shows and Halloween parties.I love to make pumpkin rolls for friend and most of the small town decorates.Fall makes us feel like kids again.

Cooling temperatures bring out tight sweaters on the ladies, hunting seasons open, trout fishing improves and the fish are larger, a complete new garden needs to be put in . . . yes, by any standards Autumn is my favorite season.

Fall is mine too! Especially now that I live somewhere that has colors. The desert was lacking. I will be truly beautifull here in October. The best I have ever seen was Connecticut and Pennsylvania back in the 70's.

Alas, where I live we don't get to see a lot of changing leaves or any of those autumnal elements so beloved back east, like the weather getting cool and windy; things will cool down, but we will, without a doubt, get one last summer heatwave (likely first weekend of October) before the temperatures come down enough to bring out the long trousers and a sweater.

However, we do put on our "pretend it's autumn" best, and that's enough for me to love it. A huge variety of apples, nuts and heirloom tomatoes appear in the farmer's market, restaurants start to serve up butternut squash bisque and pumpkin pies (yum!), coffee houses offer hot, caramel apple cider, the smell of sugar and spice floats by, and everyone brings out the warm hues of brown, orange, yellows for clothes and decorations.

That's almost good enough for me. However, year before last I went to New England for Fall, to see it for, yes, the first time. I went absolutely gah-gah! I'm talking full-on convert. Pictures of the turning leaves were no match for the real thing and I could not stop gawking. I loved it ALL. The brisk weather, the misty roads, the gables of old houses and pointed white church steeples, the shockingly beautiful leaves on the trees, the leaves off the trees, falling and tumbling on the breeze.....

:( I wanna be there for Autumn! Darn you Nero for making yearn for a New England Autumn!

Another fan of fall here. October is my favorite month of the year in my mountains. Chilly mornings. Warm afternoons. Crisp, clear weather (most of the time). Brilliant foliage. Incredible star-shine. Balloon festival. Halloween. :) I'm kinda bummed that Bel will have to wait another whole year to share it with me.

New England is great but don't discount PA or NC by any means. I grew up in Southern NM so fall meant yellow leaves for a week then brown. When I was here in the Navy was the first time I ever saw other than pictures. :D

Imp, keep your pants on :D
On second thought ...

Autumn would be my favorite if I didn't know that winter was right behind it. Guess my favorite would be mid to late spring when everything is coming alive (and when winter isn't just beyond).

Autumn used to be my favourite season, but as I get older I enjoy it less because I know winter is drawing near. Still, it's very pretty in this neck of the woods once the leaves turn and I enjoy the colours very much. I hope you all have a great autumn and manage to stay warm once Old Man Winter shows his face... BRRRR!

I love this season so much I named a child after it! ;)

Cool, crisp temps, gorgeous foliage, pumpkins, Halloween, cider and donuts and caramel apples... mmmmmm!

I adore Autumn!

I miss Autumn here. It passes in a flash; it is the one time in the year that I 'need' to be in England.

Happy Autumn, Nero.

I guess it depends on where you live.

Autumn is pretty, but not a patch on Spring with the may blossom, the daffodils and the bluebells - and the possibility of some warm weather at fucking last. Autumn means the nights drawing in - less light, more darkness - and the coming cold.

To me the 'right' weather is when I can wear shorts and keep the windows open.

Autumn is the forerunner of Winter: dark at getting up time, dark before tea-time - and if it isn't as cold as sin, that's wrong too.

Heaven is sitting out in the sun, drinking cold beer and talking or reading. Autumn signals the end of that... :(

Yep, I second that notion.

And be damned if it isn't Spring :D

You can tell by the need to have the entire wardrobe - from singlets to heavy jackets - on hand and the violent weather!

Autumn is my favorite time of year, too.

It finally cools off. I've got all the fruits from harvest which I make homemade applesauce, blackberry preserves, apple cider... There's something about how it smells, too: crisp and clean. Not the oppresive heat that the desert is famous for. I love the color of all the gourds, squashes and leaves. Everything about fall is earthy; smells, tastes, colors. Hmmmm.....

Warm bodies, cinnamon, mouths and tongues, nutmeg, honey . . . grrrrrrrrowf!

All of them. I love them all, in moderation. :)

I'm late... I'm late for an important date...

Happy Mabon all.

(I was a touch busy... ugh)

I love Fall. I love the beauty of the season and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot and jack-o-lanterns and tiny trick-or-treaters who don't quite know what they're doing yet.

Most of all, I love the cool weather. I have a hard time during the summer, because I have really severe heat intolerance. Like, I try not to leave the house if it's over 75, and I really prefer it when the outside temperature is 55 -- that severe. Summer is always a trial for me, because most people love weather that makes me wilt, and no one really understands why I would have to turn down invitations to outdoor events, just because it's going to be in the low 80's. First I get cranky, then I get extremely tired, then I get a headache, then I fall over. It looks a lot like heat exhaustion except that it can happen when it's only in the upper 70's outside. I think maybe I'm supposed to live in Iceland or something.

I love Autumn... we go to our place in North Carolina for two or three weeks in October just to see the leaves.

Apples, apple cider, jams, jellies, boiled peanuts, pumpkins, squashes, honey, cheese grits, Carolina BBQ...yummy!

It cools off here in Florida too. Down into the 70's and low humidity. Ahhhhh..... :D
