Yeah, yeah, yeah! Stormy Weather! Awesome. Perfect.
Unimprovable, actually.
Check out this 'un, from Show Boat. The woman has an absolutely liquid voice. And though it's high caloric, it goes down smooth.
Just an awesome vocalist. Knew how to sing.
Oh, I am feeling so stupid. I missed Mr. Tung's firstly post, which was the same clip as I linked.Angeline said:What a lovely clip Tzara. She's so beautiful and her voice is like silk. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she has a great song to sing.
For some reason this song reminded me of one of my favorite songs from Cabin in the Sky: Happiness is a Thing Called Joe. It's not Lena, it's Susan Hayward doing a pretty good rendition of it. Ethel Waters' version is supposedly the seminal one, but for my money Ella Fitzgerald's interpretation is to die for. Anyway, it's a beautiful song with an equally beautiful lyric.
It seem like happiness is just a thing called Joe.
He's got a smile that makes the lilacs want to grow.
He's got a way that makes the angels heave a sigh
When they know little Joe's passing by.
Sometimes the cabin's gloomy and the table's bare,
But then he'll kiss me, and it's Christmas everywhere.
Troubles fly away and life is easy go.
Does he love me good? That's all I need to know.

Little Joe, my little Joe, little Joe.

Oh, well. Excellente and deservin' of posting multiply timed.
Hey, T and A! (That somehow doesn't sounds quite right, does it?) Have I ever said I love your music posts? You guys (well, guy and gal-like thing) has superb taste in music.
Superb.
Scusi, I have to find some Lena thing Mr. Tung did not already post.
Or maybe just plunk up some Joni thing. That always distracts him.![]()
OK, fine. Poetic gal-like thing.Angeline said:The feeling is mutual. I always look forward to your music posts--for both the music and the descriptions that go with them.
And somehow I doubt that T will mind being paired my uh A. Somehow here it seems appropriate.
PS Did you just call me a "gal-like thing"? Ahem. How about "poet" instead?![]()

That better?![]()
Aw, those were good. I was teasing. Flat sunflower seed bagels with scallion cream cheese, not-very-good coffee (sorry, I'm from Seattle), and the Frick Collection? Good times. Oh, and that Neue Galerie was cool. I love Klimt.Angeline said:Marginally, but I'll live with it. I guess it's a fair trade-off for the unleavened bagel-like thing.![]()
