I submitted an Incest/Taboo story quite some time ago that has been verging on "Hot" status seemingly forever. Currently, it's plateaued at 4.49.
As a rule, I don't get offended or otherwise perturbed when my submissions don't achieve "Hot" status; most are, some aren't, and overall I tend to agree with the readers' ratings. Some chapters of a longer work of mine don't deserve the big red "H" and a Humor piece of mine is unlikely to reach a broad audience, being something of a comedy of manners.
I knew when I submitted this particular story that it was unlikely to please hard-core incest fans; for one thing, there's absolutely no chance of anybody getting pregnant and not every available orifice is filled, licked, stroked or otherwise titillated.
However, stylistically, I think it's the best damned thing I've submitted on Lit, I think it has some pretty hot, albeit fairly short, sex scenes, and I have to admit that I'm slightly irked. Silly of me, but there it is.
I'm not trolling for votes (note the lack of link to the story). I really just wanted to vent a bit, but I'm curious: How do you deal with stories receiving lower marks than you think they deserve?
