Hanging at Luke-Hot

I submitted an Incest/Taboo story quite some time ago that has been verging on "Hot" status seemingly forever. Currently, it's plateaued at 4.49.

As a rule, I don't get offended or otherwise perturbed when my submissions don't achieve "Hot" status; most are, some aren't, and overall I tend to agree with the readers' ratings. Some chapters of a longer work of mine don't deserve the big red "H" and a Humor piece of mine is unlikely to reach a broad audience, being something of a comedy of manners.

I knew when I submitted this particular story that it was unlikely to please hard-core incest fans; for one thing, there's absolutely no chance of anybody getting pregnant and not every available orifice is filled, licked, stroked or otherwise titillated.

However, stylistically, I think it's the best damned thing I've submitted on Lit, I think it has some pretty hot, albeit fairly short, sex scenes, and I have to admit that I'm slightly irked. Silly of me, but there it is.

I'm not trolling for votes (note the lack of link to the story). I really just wanted to vent a bit, but I'm curious: How do you deal with stories receiving lower marks than you think they deserve?

I'm reading the scariest book in the history of Earth, and I'm bored. It has plenty of great reviews and I cant fathom why anyone thinks its so awesome.

So, to answer your question: The sword cuts both ways; some great stories are ignored, and some mediocre stories get drums and bugles and dancing elephants.

No one can predict how readers will respond to a story, no matter how wonderfully crafted we believe it to be. Some writers find a plot formula or characters that resonate with the public and stick with it. Others are bold enough to try something new, and if it fails, then they try something else. In terms of creativity innovation and uniqueness trump bland and predictable every time. ;)

I gave it a 5 (after reading it, of course.) Good luck on your H.

As soon as I have one, I'll let you know. ;)

Wish you had posted a link, 'cause now I'm curious. :D

I found the link a couple of clicks into GDP's profile. It's the only incest story on the list.

Well, now I'm both grateful and embarrassed. Thanks for your vote; I really appreciate it but that wasn't why I posted. This thread isn't about whether or not it gets an "H" but about a little glitch in my head and whether others have the same glitch.

I actually have two Incest stories up. One is definitely "Incest Lite," a harmless little stepdaughter tease, and has probably done better than it should have; I even put in a disclaimer saying it wouldn't satisfy hard-core incest fans. The other, and the story in question, is Softly, By Moonlight. Since DH requested a link, there it is, but please don't bother to vote. It'll get there or it won't.
