I'm not really a fan of pop music, but I loved Alanis' first album. I thought it was spectacular.
I thought her second album sucked huge rocks.
I just got tohear hew new single "Hands Clean". Man this thing knocked my socks off. It's not nearly as angry as her first album, but it's full of the passion I've come to love from her music. Her sing-song, nearly spoken verses weave very well into the shuffle-rock faux-electronica background music which is neither distracting nor badly done.
The choruses are the kind of "wall of sound" that Phil Spector would have admired. It accents her own vocal quality without overpowering it at all.
The lyrics are the sort of personal relationship conversations which are her hallmark. They actually say somethign without being overly preachy (thankfully) or smarmy.
I'm very impressed. I look forward to heraing more from this album.
