Surprisingly I agree in a way to this.

We have in the United States a large number of Haitians both legal and illegal. (It is estimated that we have upwards of 30,000 illegals in Florida alone.) There is a constant push on by the Haitians to change the status of the illegals here to either completely legal or at the very least Protected Status. (Which means they can't be deported.)

Haiti's problems are being caused by the fact they are the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and they have one of the most corrupt Governments in history.

We, ie. the United States effectively support Haiti through our aid.

What we need to do is annex it and make it another state. (The surrounding countries wouldn't mind this I'm sure.)

Then we could get rid of the corrupt government that is in power now and start getting them back on their feet.

In the 1940's we would have made Haiti and "US Protectorate" or even a "Territory". But at the end of the Papa Doc era, we were too afraid of "American Imperialism." It certainly would have pissed off Cuba, but what could Castro do about it? (Thinking of The Mouse That Roared?)

You are correct in saying we have sent huge amounts of Foreign Aid to Haite since then. However, most if not all has ended up in the pockets of the governing junta, while little or none has gone to support the country.

This morning, Colen Powel (who I have great respect for) said this morning the US should have made a "long term commitment" in Haiti when Papa Doc was overthrown. In my mind his words mean exactly that we should have made the Island of Haiti a US Protectorate.

I just heard on the local News Station that not only are the hospitals and emergency operations offices gearing up for an influx of refugees but the White House has declared at least temporary amnesty for all Haitians in the United States. (I wonder if that will count also for those who come in?)

Well I don't know Charley.

As of noon today my hospital along with a couple of others had sent out a 30 person medical unit. AT noon today I received a warning order to keep my bag packed. (I went through it last night to make sure everything was ready.)

If I get sent out it will be for an undetermined amount of time. What I would be doing is anyones guess at this point. Because of my training I could be doing anything from Search and Rescue/Recovery to Patient Care Tech. in a field hospital to who knows what.

Gear to be brought along consists of two sets of clothing including boots and heavy gloves. Respirator. Two days worth of food. Canteens. Water Filters and Water Purification Tabs. Mess Kit.

We shall see what happens.

It's not hypocritical because, according to Pat Robertson, the Haitians made a deal with the devil in order to break with France back in the 19th century. Which is why this Earthquake happened; they're getting what they deserve. Oh, and Rush says they were linked to communists and that's why we shouldn't give them any aid.

So, see, it's perfectly okay to let them die and even hope that they die. There's no sanctity in the life of devil worshiping commies or their fetuses.
