What do you call a short haircut for a woman? I'm shocking with the names of these things and I need to say that she had her hair cut into an ______. Basically something kinda Vella's length, maybe even a bit shorter.

A pageboy is fairly short, a bob os shorter. How short are you shooting for here?

Imagine you had a really, really, really, really bad haircut that ruined your hair and you had to basically go with something very short to expunge the evil. The female equivalent of a "Number 3 all over" option that blokes have. The bob did come to mind, but I'm not 100% sure what it looks like. Is that what Catherine Zeta Jones had in Chicago?

How about a q-tip haircut? When a woman get it, she looks like a q-tip. ;)

Spot on. Thank you, Jeanne.

Right, this thread is now open to any purpose whatsoever. Do your worst.

I added the Shag, because that might also work if the bad haircut is very choppy. Or I just like to say shag.

Good luck!

Is it most men's opinion that the best/only reason for a woman to have short hair is if she gets a really god awful haircut and needs to remove the damage?

I don't know. I prefer long hair, but my girl can't take the weight of her thick hair like that. It gives her headaches like you wouldn't believe....or maybe you would, if you have experienced anything like it. I finally told her to go ahead and cut it short anyway. Long hair is prettier, but in her case, it's more trouble than it's worth. I also told her to keep it feminine, and she has. She's a good one.

...er, yes?

Men like long hair on women. Even if it's crappy-looking-damaged-dry-split ends hair, they like it long. It's not that they wouldn't think a woman is attractive with short hair, but their preference is for long.

Not true! I like fairly short hair, most of those bobs would be better than long hair in my opinion.
Oh and lucky your hair cut is cool too.

The hair on a womans head doesn't make the woman.

Uh-uh. No way. Definitely not. And other such phrases as he backs away, with his hands held high in the air.

I'm generally a long-hair-liking man, just from personal preference, but there are some girls who look so goddamn good with short hair. Kate Beckinsale in Shooting Fish springs immediately to mind. However, the story in question involves a girl hacking off her hair in a drunken rage and needing it fixed so she can be seen in public.

I actually wear the male equivalent of the 'emergency backup hair' as mine's just number 3 clippers all over. Just suits me.

As someone who wore her hair extremely short for 20 years, I agree with this. However, "long" is subjective. To some, it simply means "enough to get a fist full." ;)

I'm not meaning to get on a soap box. I just wondered what the general concensus around here was. Honestly. I'm more concerned about what vella thinks about my hair than anyone.

My dad's that way about hair. He always has a hissy fit when my sister or I cut our hair. Even if it's for a trim, often times. It's ridiculous, but he has a really strong proclivity for longer hair. Odd that he married a woman with very short hair.

I dunno. I find that as I get older I put fewer and fewer restrictions on what I like and what I don't, especially if I've not seen it all yet. Had you asked me even three years ago if I liked certain things, I'd have said no to a lot of things that I'm really quite fond of now.

*shrug*

I adore short hair on women. I think it often screams that they're self-assured/confident and that is super sexy to me.

Generally, I like it longer myself.

But it's not the first thing I'll notice about a woman.

Y'know, in thinking of all the women I've known with very short hair, I believe you're right. They've all been very self-confident. I'd never made that correlation before.

I don't think it makes much difference. If you have the time and inclination, long hair is beautiful and gives you a lot of options as far as different looks go. I suspect the correlaton between short hair and confidence is an ancillary one. That is, most of the women I know who are self confident and go getters just don't have the time/inclination to deal with their hair being real long.

Some women look great and that's irrespective of their hair length. Some look a lot better with it long. Some with it short.

Part of the joy in observing is in the variety, at least for me :)

Short hair only looks good on certain people. It makes me look about 12 (instead of 14 like long hair does). Some people look and feel better with something really short.

i would personally love be able to get away with short hair. Short as in 'pixie' or shorter. However, taking into consideration looks, cost of keeping it trimmed to length, etc. it makes more sense for mine to be long. Then when it gets to a certain length it can still be lobbed off and sent to charity and leave enough for me to still look somewhat decent.

I'm not disagreeing, but I view the short hair = confidence in a different way. In my mind, especially after listening to how most people feel about long hair, it takes a bit of self-assuredness to strut around with the exact opposite of that. I'm not a real high-maintenance person when it comes to physical appearance. That said, I don't think I ever leave the house looking a wreck, disrespectful, or completely out of the norm. My hair's so short that were it not for a rather ample chest endowment and a pair of girlie earrings I might be mistaken for a man. I don't know too very many women that have the gall to do the same.

'Cept for Imp and Charley. :rowr: Vella's has grown long, but she had it quite short last year. ;)

Groovy. :) I love it when that happens.

I'm jacking (sorta) this thread to say I want to get my hair cut so bad. I hate my hair long, which it is at the moment, but I don't have a hair stylist here and cutting length off (so that it's cute) is a risky business with an unknown stylist. Plus, I just don't ever have the time to do it.
As to confidence- I feel more confident when I look good, which for me is when my hair is NOT long. Super short is not my thing, but neither is long.
