Hagel Popularity Tanks

Such a bad time, too...

...with Communist China increasing its military spending exponentially, and Novorossia flexing its insecure nationalism all across Europe and even into the airspace of the Americas.

Within 5 years, the USSA will've totally squandered away the military-technology superiority the USA spent decades in building...

...rots of ruck then, Yankee dogs.

Maybe he should take a survey and ask them what orders they want to obey.

I have visions of Vette telling his Drill Sergeant that would he mind if Vette ignored that last order because it would make him just so, so unpopular.:D

What's popularity got to do with running the military. Mebbe the only lesson from this is that the inubordinates should be assigned to shithouse cleaning for a week or two.

You understand all SecDefs are politically appointed...

...right?

What's funny is that if Rumsfeld was the object instead of Hagel this time..

...each partisan side would simply be singing out of the other side of the same old bottle.

Don't blame Hagel - er, maybe

How could Hagel be popular with the defense establishment? The strategic vision outlined by the politicos in the White House is so twisted, distorted and perverted that there's no way Hagel can clearly implement it with a very traditional, conservative defense workforce. But Hagel knew what he was getting into with Obama, so he can at a minimum be identified as part of the problem.

His popularity cannot survive the undoing of Iraq caused by Obama and the steady escalation of a new war and the spending that goes with it. One wonders how long those elements of the Democrat Party which did every thing they could to defeat and besmirch Bush will remain quiet as we turn a secured victory into another Vietnam in order for Obama to declare victory and prematurely abandon Iraq in order to go into the election having the illusion of fulfilling a campaign promise. Next, we will see Afghanistan turn into a copy of Libya and Iraq.

I was a Platoon Sergeant, asshole.

No one except you are suggesting our military won't obey its orders. If you're an incompetent leader, it will drain morale, endanger your troops, and affect the fighting ability of your military.

But the title of your complaint was of his unpopularity, not his competance, so mocking you is entirely appropriate. The fact that you were a platoon Segeant is of zero importance except that it makes it even more amusing.

Incidentally I spent 18 years in the army and out ranked you, but am sufficiently secure of myself that unlike you I don't feel the need to constantly boast about a modest military carreer.
