I woke up this morning in the zone; ideas for a story I've been working on just flowing. It was awesome for about an hour when it hit me.

You see, most of the stories I write are in first person. I enjoy the intimacy. This one, however, I think is better suited to close third.

Yeah, you see where this is going...

I'm now in the process of taking everything I wrote over the last hour or so and converting it from first to third person.

And this is why, on a normal day, I always re-read the story I'm picking up before I start working on it again.

As the title says, I'm laughing at myself. Just for grins, what are some of your favorite faux pas(curious that faux pas is both singular and plural, isn't it)?

I have changed the gender of MCs in two of my recent stories. I get the story fleshed out, and as the ending comes together. Oops!

I screwed up POV or past vs present regularly in my early stories. Not many made it through to publication and I have gotten better about it. I suspect I will have much more problems as I shift to exclusive first person to making use of what is hopefully the more appropriate POV in a story (or a segment of a story). One of my current writing projects.

I did something similar with past tense/present tense. Wrote around 3,000 words, left it. Came back, wrote another 5,000 or do, then realised I'd switched tense. Took a while to rectify.

Recently, screwed up a name for a character. I switched between Ray, Roy, and Ron. Roy was just a typo/ blend of the two, I'm pretty sure. Ray is what the character was meant to be named, but Ron slipped in a few times. Ron is the name of the guy the character is modeled after. So, at a few points in the story I kinda forgot he was meant to be a character and not the real person and used his real name. I'm going to submit an edit for it. But when it was pointed out to me, I blushed and kicked my feet with a, "'hem well.... Guess which parts I pulled directly from real life..." Then laughed about it.

In one chapter of The Dome, I messed up a few names. Miroo became Miloo a few times, and Tulon became Turon.

My excuse for Turon is that I'd spent a lot of time in Spain.

There are too many characters named Suzy/Susie/Suzie amongst my favourite writers, so I can never remember how to spell my own character, Suzy (I think; 80% sure).
