Magi, our Black and White Male, had climbed on top of the Grill and was watching the world go past when a car backfired out on the road. This seemed to startle him and he started sliding. He was coming right off the grill when his left rear leg went into the handle. He was trapped and hanging by his back leg. Thankfully for me I saw this happen and was there in two steps to help him out.

When I had released him from his trap he took off like a shot, running on three legs. Obviously he wasn't as co-ordinated as usual and I could follow his progress by the thumps and crashes as he raced through the trailer into the bedroom. Needless to say I followed him. I had to check out that leg.

I found him cowering under the bed. When I knelt down by the bed he faded back hissing, he seemed to think I was angry at him. I didn't let this deter me. I lay there and talked to him until he started calming down. Slowly then I reached out and scratched his ears until he started limping towards me. Finally he came out to where I was laying and head butted me. He was still hopping on three legs though.

Once he was out I carefully picked him up and cradling him lifted him to the bed. Now I could check him out. Slowly I ran my hand over his leg and hip. He didn't like this but he allowed it. Everything seemed ok, nothing displaced. I got up and started for the living room thinking he was going to want to be left alone to lick his wounds. He saw me moving away and started howling. Stopping I turned around and went back to him and he quieted down.

Again I scratched him and turned to leave with the same results. He didn't want to be left alone. Now Magi isn't one of those cats that like to be picked up. He'll sit in your lap or alongside you but he just doesn't like to be picked up. This time though I picked him up and he snuggled right in.

I carried him out to the Patio again and after I sat down he curled up in my lap while I read. If I lifted my hand off him too long he would reach up with his forepaws and grab at my hand until I started scratching him again. We sat there that way for the next hour.

When he crawled off my lap he was limping but able to put weight on his leg. Over the day the limp vanished but his loving didn't. Every time I sat down he was right there in my lap. Hell right now he is sitting in my lap watching me type.

I was afraid he had broken his leg when he got caught like that. Thankfully it doesn't look like that happened.

So glad Magi is okay.

Isn't it amazing how a cat's attitude will change in a crisis? ;)

I have this strange affinity for Cats. I understand them and they trust me.

Magi is moving around just fine now and yet he won't allow me out of his sight. If he isn't in my lap then he's laying at my feet. Our other cats are doing the same thing to both my wife and myself.

What's funny is how even wild cats or ferals react to us. We seem to be their friends.

I wonder how Kitty would have reacted to you...she was abused as a kitten. My father and sisters and I, and then later Gizz and I, got her to come out of her shell for the most part but she was still skittish and high-strung. She hid under the bed whenever we had company. She died two years ago at age 15 but I'm always curious how she'd've acted around the various people I've known who do have that affinity with cats.

ETA: I also wonder how my dad's cat Blueberry would've reacted to you when we noticed she was injured. Don't know what happened or how, just noticed that she was running around the house on three legs. Whatever the cat-equivalent to a torn ACL is is what was wrong and she was in a cast for six weeks. But when we first noticed her injury she wouldn't let anybody touch her at all for the pain.

Glad to hear things are okay with Magi.

:rose:

I understand what you are saying about cats. We're the same.

Cats just know.

It's like Harry Potter's wand. The cat chooses the human.

Ah...you made him feel safe rather than contributing to the fear and pain he was already experiencing by, say, pulling him out from under the bed against his will. So now he loves you all the more for it. Glad to hear that his leg wasn't seriously injured. :rose:

My kitty has been especially cuddly lately. I don't know if he's cold or what, but I always seem to be entertaining a little purring machine in my lap whenever I sit down.

Cats and I have this strange affinity. We get along. I can do damned near anything with a feline and get away with it while others pick up scars

I have raised a Bobcat. I have been in cages with Big Cats. I have held ferals as they died after being hit by cars, rarely has one tried to bite or scratch me.

Our local zoo has me on speed dial. I have been in their cages more often than their vets.

Like I said Felines and I seem to have an affinity.

Right now I have one cat on my lap and another draped across my shoulders. Both are purring up a storm. When I finally drag my butt into bed I will have four out of five cats on the bed. (The fifth will be on my nightstand.)

Has the weather been changing a lot where you are? Cats feel this more than we do. Also if it's cold and the floors get cold they get real friendly, they have more feet to get cold than we do.

Weather has been a little erratic. I think there have been a lot of changes for him lately. I just bought new furniture for the Living Room, rearranged my bedroom, etc. He's probably feeling a little displaced. I just hope he doesn't start any bad behaviors. I already had the "talk" with him about it.

Cat, that is amazing and good to hear that the leg wasn't broken. I'll share my tale about my kitty too...
My Big Boy, out of nowwhere came up with a cyst on the front of his shoulder recently, and though the man loves cats wouldn't let him near... I called his name and he came hobbling in jumped up and head butted me fiercely then presented his shoulder.
It was a mess. I called the vet but the soonest was two days day as it wasn't "life threatening." I talked to the boy, petting him as he leaned against me as hard as he could and still let me see his shoulder, and asked him "will you let me help you?", sort of silly, but I swear he understood. I proceeded to probe and clean and drain the cyst. He cried out once and I stopped, but not once did he bite, or scratch me. I did this several times over the next two days, and every time...I would call his name and he would come and present his shoulder. On the evening of the second day the core came out (sort of like a huge zit). Then because I am allergic to neosporin (doc said okay), I put on rubber gloves and squirted about a 3rd of the tube into the open wound (about 1/3 inch wide). He grabbed my wrist with both paws, no claws and leaned his head back to look at me. I swear it was so sweet the look on his face. THen I gave him a good scratch and he nestled down and slept. Did the same thing next day, antibiotic into the wound, and by the end of the week it was if nothing had ever happened. And though he has always been a snuggly cat with me, he hasn't been out of my way since LOLOL... feet, knees, arms, chest where ever he can get close to me he's there. Including deciding to lay on my mouse to make me pet him instead of being on the puter.
I've always loved cats and will chose a cat over a dog every time... Even our girl kittywho hated to be picked up, rarely let you pet her, and absolutely refused to sit on a lap, has come around to head butting, being petted and rubbed, being picked up (as long as you dont hold her like an infant (man the man is clueless sometimes)), and will let only me put her in my lap where she will stay for up to five minutes then jumps down and winds around my legs. Affinity? Or just understanding what its like to be overwhelmed when you are just small.
personally I think its a bit of both.

Anyway... many pets and scratches to the crew and cudos to you.
