hi all....

Say, I am wondering if any of you have had this experience. I have submitted my first story, 'Cucumbers and Wine' in the Toys and Masturbation Category.

In a short period, I quickly ranked #11 with 54 votes and a rating of 4.68 or something. I was ecstatic!!! :D
A day later, I noticed I had only 33 votes and was suddenly #68.
I can understand how new stories can come in at a higher rating, etc., but it is not possible to lose votes.
I'm so bummed....:( and
Has anyone ever had this happen? I know it's just a story, but I was so excited :) Thank you everyone who can help me understand.

assuming it's not just a computer, counter type glitch:

periodically, votes that appear fraudulent are taken out.

the most common frauds are not 1's, as some imagine, but the doings of diligent 'fans' or 'friends' giving 5's to someone.

sorry to hear of its happening to you.

HI J ~~~
Thank you J, for writing. I appreciate knowing that. It would be odd if it was the 'friends' thing; I sent it to only 3 friends. I've been kind of shy about it, this go round. I did write to the webmaster about it and to Laurel the other day, but have not heard back about it as of yet.

It's worth noting, that three friends can cast a helluva lotta votes, if they put their minds to it.

:D Yes, I thought of that too, lol. However knowing these fhree, all maturish 50 somethings and rather conservative, it isn't their style.
So, are you saying that if there was more than one vote from the same reader, that the extra votes would be cancelled? That would make sense.
One '5' vote would not be considered fraudulent and subsequently cancelled, would it?
That wouldn't seem likely.

Nope, a single five from a unique IP address would not be canceled.

I suspect that the large numbers of votes removed from your listing might be related to your double post above. If the occasioanl stalling of the server is affecteing the voting scripts as it does the BB, there may have been a buch of inadvertant double (triple or more) votes registered in thinking the first vote hadn't taken.

 ohhhhh, I see, said the blind woman.
hey weird harold, thanks for the info. I didn't know about that possibility. I wish the powers at be would write. Seems they would know .... I was so jazzed :-( Yeah, yeah, it's just a story.
I know those Q & A can be tricky, 'specially this time of year when the witches are out..... keep your chin up; you'll find which questions go with what answers. They are like socks; you need both to be complete. If you keep having trouble, just ask Dorothy.

I liked your other possibility of computer glitch, but disagree, respectfully on the above.

Assume a unique IP address (virtual person) casts bunches of fives on several stories, and single fives on some others, and single 4s 3s 2s on others. All of the latter, then, by themselves, look legal.

In that case, however,--it's my belief-- the 'single' votes will disappear when the culprit is detected. I.e, all 'his' votes are thrown out.
