Gym rats or weightlifting?

Yeah. I lift, but I'm irregular. I tore my right rotator cuff a year ago so now I can't do strength training anymore (I was scheduled to have surgery and chickened out the night before when I finally read about the rehab. It takes a long time to come back.) but I still do upper body and legs and cardio.

I'm bad though. If I'm writing something good I'll skip the gym to work on it. I skip the gym a lot.

I hit the gym 2-3 days a week. I try to separate it out into push days and pull days (with a couple of leg things each time), with about 10-15 minutes of cardio thrown in (it's all my knees will take  ). In between I do crunches & pushups at home. I bought the Push Up Pro, which is an excellent at-home workout when you don't have the time or energy to go out. Pretty cool invention for $20. :D

Not per se, but I wear a 60 lb. Weightvest and swing 2 10 lb. dumbbells when I take the terror-ier for a walk about 3-4 times a week. It's made a visible difference on both my legs and on my forearms. Hands are a lot stronger, too.

do you get odd looks from passers by?

The only supliment I take is protien powder and a multi vitamin. The best way to increase your metabalism is through diet. the 5 small meals a day thing with the big breakfast. reduced carbs but you can't cut them out completely like the atkins or south beach otherwise you won't have the energy to workout and that's where you get the most benifit....from a good hard workout.

Metabolol II has processed egg protein that's easily digestable. It has carbs that are 'stacked' by molecular weight, so that the burn time is hours, not minutes. The sugars has an extra atom of oxygen; you can't feel it at the beginniing of a workout, but you can at the end. Metabolol II has medium chain triglycerides for the fat you need to digest food. However, the medium chain triglycerides are giant molecules, too large to pass through your intestine walls. Thus medium chain triglycerides can't be stored as fat by your body. ou can eat Metabolol II during a workout. Try it.

i'm interested but does it amp you up? I don't like that speed feeling. you know what I mean?

I haven't been able to get in to the gym since Friday. I'm done with work today at last (11:15pm) and my Gold's is 24-hours on weekdays, I think, so I'm going to go take advantage of that. :)

Hey, that wasn't bad! It was upper body this time, and I jumped up on a bunch of weights. Got up to 215 for close-grip bench presses, which is up about 35 pounds from 11 days ago. Far out!

The only problem is that I really pushed the forearm exercises and I'm all puffed up right now and my left little finger hurts a little when I use it to type. But I imagine that'll get better over night.

Well, I'm pumped and not quite ready for bed, so I'm going to hang out a little 'till I'm tired and then sack out.

But DAY-umn, I feel virtuous! :)

I've been pumping iron again for the last 3 months, mostly because it's good for me (diabetic) and partly because I like the way I look when I bulk back up. Are there other gym rats or iron-pumpers on the list?

Been doing it since August, 1985.
Strength training: Bodybuilding/Powerlifting

Have rotator cuff injury twice. The 1st time, it took a year to heal and 2 years on the 2nd time.

Piece of advice: DO NOT PERFORM UPRIGHT ROWS. That does it all of the time. If you want to build your delts and traps, PM me and I'll give you the right exercise for that.

have you noticed a big gain in muscle size? chest, shoulders and arms in particular? what type of routine do you use? split by body part? whole body?

My friend at work have been training about as long as I have. But his arms are no where near my size and he asked me how the hell I worked my arms light yet have grown them so large.

My secret: Work my upper body hard and my arms light. When doing heavy bench, your triceps will do alot of the work. When working back (heavy pulldowns), your biceps will do alot of that work. Then they won't need to be heavily trained.

For really great advice from alot of hardcore trainers, maybe you would like to check out those type of communities. I'm currently a Super Moderator on 5 different communities that pertain to bodybuilding, powerlifting, and fitness and a VET at dozens of others. On most of them, there are actual professional competitors registered on them.
