My wife and I took a trip sat nite to an adult toy store and we got a nice vibrator for her ;). Tho she did have a sneaky little grin when I suggested a strap on. :D My question is what do you clean yours with after using it? Not sure if alcohol will dry it out and such or if there is a preferred method. The old hot water and soap standby just doesn't seem like the best thing considering the both of us will be using it.

We have toys for my vadge and toys for my bum and toys for his bum - all kept separate and never used for any other purpose. Problem solved. Clean them using soap and water.

How you protect and clean it depends on the material(s) it's made of - pure silicone and hard plastic are a far cry from porous "jelly" or cyberskin-type stuff. So what's it made of?

If it's porous and/or not capable of being sanitized, you MUST put a condom over it if you're planning on using it anally on either of you and also on her vulva or in her vagina. If it's a material that can't be cleaned properly, it's a good idea to slip a condom over it prior to use on her/your bits. To avoid confusion and possible cross-contamination, though, you should probably get a separate toy that can be cleaned properly for anal play alone. When you're shopping for an anal toy, look for something that has a flared base and/or handle for easy removal as well as a material that can be sanitized with heat or a light bleach solution.

Here's a primer on sex toy materials.

Thanks Erika for the advice. The one we bought is not rigid but flexible and not porus. I hadn't thought of using a condom on it either. Probably will get another one I am thinking because I just don't want to risk either of us getting something that could easily be avoided.

We have a silicon toy that can actually go in the dishwasher!

We super-clean our Magic Wand attachments periodically in the top rack of the dishwasher. I know that would squick some people, but we use the sanitize option and it's no big deal. IIRC, boiling is also an option for that material, but it's a hell of a lot easier to just throw them in the dishwasher!

Squick. What a bloody fabulous word.
